yes it's gorgeous! now I'm hoping the next improvement will be zoom to mouse cursor instead of centre point when using the mouse wheel.

Oh WOW

Finding land for sale now is SOOOO cool

Try zooming in and ticking the Land for Sale on. Wowowowowowo.

You can zoom out and see the terrain... zoom back in and see the parcel.

And you can click on the $ tags to see what the prices are .. without having to fly there! Woo!

The land for sale on the new map is the coolest thing ever.

NO LONGER will you have to wonder if that jerk listed that 512 for sale at $99,999! Now you can KNOW!

I also now have to worry about if my builds look cool from the world map...this is too much pressure

The map seems a bit slow to appear. Private islands take longer to appear, or you have to zoom in more than the mainland sims, or something is different about them. When I am zoomed out I can see the green dots on the private islands but not the islands themselves, just green dots floating in the sea.

Yah, I noticed that too, was wondering if it was just loading them slower as everyone logs in today or if it'll normally be like that in the future...

Copied Google Earth? Google Maps maybe, but not quite Google Earth. GE is full 3D, with tilt/rotation, 3D terrain, 3D buildings, etc.

:P

Yea...but wouldn't Google Earth type maps...if they didn't kill our client performance...be the coolest thing?

We'd definitely need to be able to zoom in closer though.

Just teething problems I think, everything was really slow when I logged in to check it out. I seem to remember a Linden saying the new map is actually quicker than the old one.

I think what you're describing here is SL v2.0 with the new rendering engine ;) (Note: the new map uses this rendering engine to generate the top down views)

The funny thing is, you can spot mammoths easily on the map view now :o There are still a few ones left on the mainland from Easter, I think. Go go CIA-style satellite spying !

LOLEX, that's great!

I wonder if we'll be able to track them. Tag 'em maybe. That's what we can do with wildlife, right?

So in a way, really, regarding the new map in 1.7, it's a teaser square (or squares, rather) of things to come. Bon appetit!

Thanks Torley, you made me have a fantastic idea.

Migrating herds of mammoths through the mainland...

Welkies... I'd champion that too. It'd be so cool to just be going about my day and suddenly see a stampeding herd come at me from the corner of the screen while I stand, petrified, and then they stomp off into the distance. Until the next time we meet.
