A girl came onto my land and offered to give me a blackjack table. I took it and put it out the table. I asked for permission to take money like all the other games do I said yes to it and we played a few hands. She won then I won etc. then the table paided her 10,000 lindens. I grab the table real quick. So be warned if someone give you a blackjack table.
She had told me that, she and a friend made it so be warned she might not be the only one.. The tabel looks the same as the ones I have seen in the casino's... Please do not play this game outside of the casinos..

Yeah, LL can look at the code. If the code is doing something nasty, they can get perma banned and their L$ (and proceeds) confiscated.

Actually, as long as the table was coded on the up-and-up (ie, not a hacked SL client or something), the Lindens aren't going to do anything.

Well..I doubt that if it suddenly paid her L$10,000 that it is on the up and up, since playing blackjack will earn you only double of what you bet. So she would have had to of laid down L$5000 to win the extra $5000.

But it didn't have to be a legit blackjack table, is what I'm saying. If you give an object permissions to edit your $L account, you give it free reign over it, up to and including sucking you dry instantly.

But that's legal in LSL, and hence the Lindens won't do anything.

well, it was legal to buy land mistakenly released to public and they did something about that.

I reported it to lindens. Then table could not have been legeal as her bets were neven more they 5 linens so to pay out 10,000 would not have been posable.. I sent in a abuse report and a e-mail with all the details. I have been in sl for a while now this is my first time experiencing something like this.. Just hope they do something so otehrs do not have this happen.. Only think I keep thinking is glad I grabbed the table so fast as she kept biding but then last one did not go throught... it might still be in the tabel so not planning to take it out lol. being stupit twice is enough.. Just hope Lindens take this tabel and can find the ppl... I learned not to be so trusting with I hate to be.. thanks for your posts feels good to vent lol

Yeah. If they scammed you, they need to get toasted.

You did the right thing. Good luck with having your money returned and I hope they permaban the culprit.

Let just hope they don't uphold the scammers position by you confirming "Give Money".

That would be a dangerous precident.

Uhhh...

I'm not an alarmist here, but this is good-old-fashioned 'theft by deception'... IF what's being told here is true.

Their are two levels to this issue: Legal and social.

The legal issue is simple, if it turns out that 10,000 lindens was grabbed using the table, by code inside of the table, outside of the normal effect expected of such a device... That's theft. It is EXACTLY the same thing as me tricking you into letting me hold your purse and stealing money out of it.

The social? Simple: If this is not pounded into the ground immediatly, no one will be willing to buy commecial use items EVER again. Gambling devices for sale will go bye-bye, as well advanced vendor kits and other money related devices. Too easy to use them to 'rob the bank'...

Only thing you have in SL of worth is your reputation - writing something to clear a L$ account would be trivial, putting aside Linden reaction, you'd never be trusted again.

I write things for folks dealing with money from time to time - and I let them know step by step what I'm doing - help them test it - give them the code so they can look at it or have it looked at if needed... When dealing with someone elses money I am very very very careful.

One slip - even an innocent one - and you can say bye bye to your reputation and business dealings.

It's simply not worth it..

Siggy.

I absolutely agree, but the issue is anonymity.

No doubt that alts are used to do all the 'dirty work'.

I've wondered about the free blackjack tables that were put on SLExchange and so forth... has anyone checked them out?

My guess is that the casinos don't need to be illegitimate, but it only takes one person to change all that.

Don't ever give debit permission to an object you can't check the scripts of.

But you can give permissions to objects from people that you'd trust.

Its good form not to rez things that are spontainiously given to you unless you know and trust the person who sent them..

If you want a blackjack table, you'll go shopping for one.

The recent grid attacks were (I believe) carried out by people sending lots of invisable, self replicating balls to users, saying "win L$100,000's" or "Win a private island for life!"...

But if you've reported her and left the blackjack table in your inventory, you've done what you can..

I'd edit out the name from the top of the post, naming names isn't allowed on the forums, no matter what they've done.

tough lesson
12-09-2005 05:31
I do not know what will happen but I have learned a tough lesson. I trusted to easly but not any more which is kinda sad in it self. I take resposablity for being stupit and trusting. But even if it was just a mistake in there scripting, they did get the money and they did not return it. At least i got the tabel up as fast as I could and there last bet did not go in.. Could have been a lot worse..
Thanks Zapoteth your right I should not use there name and it really is about the table as many alts might be using it...

It sucks that you got scammed, but it sounds like you learned a valuable lesson... and relatively inexpensively. We've all been in your shoes at least once. I hope the Lindens can give you some help.
