Okay, this stinks

I dislike secret words. I want nothing less than to give someone an extra way to get into my accounts, so I tend to blow them off as much as possible. If I had a choice, I wouldn't use one at all.

So, of course, LL reset all of the passwords. I guess it makes sense to do it, but I still wasn't prepared for them to do it, nor to have to have the secret words that I unfortunately mostly disregarded on hand. I was lucky enough to just guess what I had done with my main account answer, but I have no idea what I did with the answer for my furry alt.

Do I have any recourse? Or is that account just sealed away from anyone, ever, for all time now?

What? Did something happen? Secret word? Reset passwords?

Hmm.

Well, now that I've had a chance to read the main thread on this topic, I see (somewhat to my horror) that, actually, I'm one of the relatively lucky ones. I was able to remember (actually just blindly guess) the throwaway answer I gave to the security question on my main account, my transaction history shows no indication of anything having been transferred out of my inventory, and I still have all of my money.

At most, I'm out an alt and the money I'd invested into her. That's still unfortunate, and if I can't get her back, I'll miss her, but considering how badly it could have gone for me, I'm inclined to breathe a sigh of relief just now.

My heart goes out to those who were less fortunate in this, though.

I got lucky and remembered the password for my alt, which is amazing considering I made it a long, long time ago. Back when I was drinking all the time, so it could have been anything.

Keep trying on your alts. Maybe it will come to you..

in another post one of the lindens stated they could help validate accounts by mondy im sure they are slammed pretty hard right now fixing things

I'm just going to calmly sit back and wait for the fallout. I don't think they can simply do this -- there's too much money tied up in accounts that people now cannot access. If this were any other MMO, I'd say that may well be that, but I'm not completely convinced that it can be here. There are people who do SL as their jobs.

I agree. After all, they are doing this to try and protect us. It would be silly to say: “you can no longer access those accounts so that they will be safe.”

But then again, maybe this is their way of getting us all back for all the crap they have been getting about the forum closure?

What happends to the Lindens? A few weeks ago I paid money by accident into an inactive account (wrong second name !). I more or less was told tough titty by LL. It was only a 1000L so I could have been worse.

*shrugs* if they refuse to help validate accounts I'll just wait till they charge me then nail em for credit card fraud.

I'm still alive bitches, now all i have to do is wait on that one business owner who can't get in over the weekend and move in and do some "business".

Im going to spend the next few days until money trying to prepare for what to say to support. I'l also be sorting through a list of accounts i have to depermine which ones i think i need back. Most of them are garbage alts but a few of them had really nice avatars i purchased for them. those are my only priority right now. The others can R.I.P i guess... You see i have more then 1 persona that i roleplay with. I'm glad most of the good ones were PRE-UNAUTH and are tied to my account though.

I have some questions ...

1) WTF does anyone need 20 accounts for?

2) Nobody has *lost* anything -- all those accounts are merely inaccessible for a few days until LL catches up with all the people who created accounts and failed to record the relevant information for getting back into them in the event of a password problem. (Okay, that wasn't a question, that was an observation.)

3) How many separate topics is Alex going to start about this? (I can hardly wait for the next one!)

4) Cake or death?

5) Pie or bacon?

Frankly, I'm out one main account. This used to be the main, and for numerous reasons, it is no longer.. I know I put the answer to my security question correctly..but yet, it says it is wrong. With my luck, I did some typo or something.

Seriously though Alex, we're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. I do agree with you that LL's customer service has not been stellar of late. That said, I think they did the right thing here, absolutely, and as painful as that may be for some to admit people have to take responsibility for their own account security information. I think that anyone punts SL over a rocky password change is kinda shooting themselves in the foot, though.

It took me a couple of tries. I had used the dreaded "What street did you grow up on?" choice, but entered "Ave." and "Ave" before I realized that initially I had written "Avenue" and then got right in.

Seriously though, I really don't think you or anyone is actually out anything, except maybe for a handful of days at most. Let's let these poor bastards actually catch up with things and maybe, just maybe, they might be able to help everyone who currently can't get in sort things out. I know the initial reaction is to freak out, but if everyone just takes a deep breath and calms down, I suspect it'll all be okay in the end.

My Main is inaccessable til god knows when, I'm a combination of pissed and bummed
