From: Chronic Skronski The topic has been talked about a million times in a million threads by 17 people. you know, while you're a dick, and you're wrong about the number, this still made me giggle when I read it. you're a witty one, I'll give you that, canuck.

The page that you linked to (Forums vs. Blogs) really captures the difference between the two media, and the types of things that each is best at.
No, blogs don't suck, despite the post from somebody saying so. But they're mainly good at one-to-many communication (broadcasting) rather than many-to-many communication (conversation). LL's moving from a forum to a blog certainly gives people the sense that they aren't interested in fostering conversation, at least not on the web.
There is plenty of conversation inside SL, but it is synchronous conversation; that is, everybody has to be present at the same time for the conversation to happen, and it happens in real time. But our community also has a need for asynchronous conversation, and that's why the loss of the forums hurts. Moving people to resident-run forums isn't the answer either, because the community will fragment.
