I have a question, in SL there are weapons, i want to know what happens when you shoot other people, because i heard you cant die in Sl, so wats the shooting 4, n wat happens when u do it. N oh yea how do people have these different last names, these names werent on my list

You can shoot someone with a gun only in a health zone, or unsafe area and kill them, otherwise the gun will push the Avatar away. You know when your in an unsafe area by looking at the top of the screen where your health will be displayed by a red heart and health meter based out of 100.

The last names constantly change every month so that there is more variety of last names so that 10,000 people wont hae the same Last name and so on...

Well, if you shoot anyone in anyplace that isn't a combat area (You can tell because there's a little heart on the screen.) you've just violated the rules and can have an abuse report filed against you and you risk a suspension from the game.

If you're in a damage enabled area and you get shot and killed, all that happens is that you get returned to your "home" position. (Which for a newbie would be the Welcome Area.) This will only happen though in a damage enabled area. Push guns will work outside of a damage enabled area, and can throw your avatar long distances, but as I've said, using them on other people outside of combat areas is against the rules.

As for last names, they only offer names for a little while, and then withdraw them, so that there aren't too many people with the same last name.

There are some guns that were created for humorous purposes as well. Such as the spam gun that just gives the person four or five notecards filled with the word “spam” over and over. (Shooting someone with this gun would still be a ToS violation though, so be careful!) Some guns “trap” people in everything from a simple cage to rezzing a building around them that they can't get out of (that has signs on it of an embarrassing XXX nature). I have a gun that “blinds” the target by rezzing a temporary particle cloud around them.

So not all guns do damage, some are just for having some fun with your friends.

There's also objects for fighting in safe areas with guns, like "Rez-Foo". Though since you are using guns in a safe zone, made sure the area is clear of innocent bystanders.

Why do you need to do things "to" people... why can't you just do them "with" others?

A lot of the attraction of SL as an MMORPG is that it doesn't involve level grinding and fighting against other players or computer controlled monsters. There are, believe it or not, far more interesting things to do.

I have a money gun. It has a small push to it so technically its a violation too (thought it only pushes so slightly the Avatar only steps back a little rather than flying off) But since the person shot is also rewarded with a few L$ I haven't had any complaints yet.

I haven't used it in a good while. I wish the welcome areas were script enabled. It could be fun.

I was actually thinking about that today, after reading this thread, a Linden Grenade. I'm sure there'd be no shortage of willing test subjects.

It is too bad that hitting anyone with a scripted object shows up on PvP, but I haven't had anyone report me for shooting them with a money gun yet.

I always wanted a gun that shot kittens, and made a sound like "Waaaahooo!" when it shot.

(I mean a gun shot kittens as projectiles, not shooting kittens with projectiles, that would be sick. )
