Nosey Neighbors Anyone?

I am curious if anyone has any suggestions for this problem that doesn't involve moving.

My wife and I bought a beautiful lake side cabin and eventually met a couple of our neighbors. Within 2 days one of the neighbors started making comments about changes in our house really shortly after we made them. I ignored it as best as I could. She would then send IM's to both my wife and myself with things like "kisses your cheek softly" which I didn't like and told her so. She stopped kissing but continued the hugs daily. She sent rl pictures that I didn't ask for and never would have. She tried to "solve" our problems with unsolicited hours of advice. I personally asked her to stop interfering several times. I am not a shy person. I have no problems telling her where to go and drawing map. However, the IM's back and forth between her and my wife who will not tell anyone where to go for fear of hurting their feelings..didn't stop. I removed her from my friends list and 5 days later she shows up IN my home and says "eek, I didn't know you were home."

Since then I have moved my home so that it is out of normal camera range and hoped that would solve at least part of the problem. It hasn't, she sent another IM this morning commenting on our new couch to my wife.

Is there ANYTHING I can do that doesn't require moving? I'm really sick of feeling those creepy eyes on me.

You can always ban said neighbor from your land, and 'mute resident' on your side :) Good luck!

Use IM to talk, and ban them from your land. It won't stop them using the camera, but it'll keep them out of your house.

It would be nice to have the same features most other instant messagers have:
Ability to stop IMs from certain people
& Ability to hide online status.

Land ban + Mute.

No more IM's from Muted residents. Land ban, she can't come on your land. Use security systems for skyboxes if you have them (land ban only extends up 50m for some stupid reason). IM me inworld (once it's up) if you need recommendations for security, but most will work and some are quite cheap. 500L$ is about norm.

Continued harrassment after these steps should be Abuse Reported.

I personaly concider tihs behavior rude and of a "stalking" nature.

I have just had problems with people just coming in the door while I am changing or something. I have nothing to hide(*Winks*) but still, ask before you come in! I have locked the door now though, which is a big help.

Also the people that just sit on top of my house and ignore me are gay and stupid. Oh and btw VERY RUDE! I love my mute button.

Ew, creepy.

Yeah, if the neighbor isn't picking up on the hints, I'd go for mute/land ban/security system for sure. I wouldn't even worry about providing an explanation to her; your privacy is your business.

But wow, yeah...still really creepy. *shivers* If that happened to me, I'd probably just move just so I could enjoy my land again and eliminate that oogy feeling of being watched like a hawk by needy neighbors.

We've had peeping tom problems too, only this weirdo doesn't talk to anyone, just lands outside the ban lines and struggles the camera into our underground section. (She's one of two people who made the list.) We're on a reasonably spacious 4096m cooperative tier split deal. I've been treating peeping tom like an intellectual problem.

Here are a few things we've tried which may or may not be useful to you: It seems these creeps are waiting until you're not around until you're not around before they pounce so I don't know how much help this will be since it's geared to 'caught in the act'.
1:
On the debug menu. (Ctrl + Alt +D if it's not up there beside Help on your menu bar)
Scroll down the Debug list to Character > Show Look At.
See all those crosshairs? :) They take some learning to read but if there's only two of you there are three sets and an avatar over aways, that other avatar is staring at you.

2:
If you know some basic scripting, make a Cam Buster. Mine involves several 10X10 transparent and phantom panels whirling around a central spinning point that uses llTargetOmega for minimal server side lag. Five or six of those in a dense web makes it obnoxiously difficult to move the camera into that area from the outside. (Or even in the web itself.)

One word: YIKES!

I know you guys aren't that way but I think banning is your only solution. As for teleporting up high I have something fun to give you.

Good luck, if there's anything we can do to help let us know.

Banning and muting is the way to go. I would never let a nosey neighbor, or anyone else, force me to put my house up in the air or force me to get a security system.

I remember feeling the same way, but...eventually I figured, eh, what the heck. Gotta say...that security system was for sure one of the best purchases I've made in SL and it really didn't set me back much $L. It pretty much eliminated, among other things, the problem of the property-banned person from flying up and over the ban lines to have a little party on the property anyway.

Yes, the SL built-in land management tools for the mainland land owner really OUGHT to be as robust as these 3rd party systems, but sadly, they're not.

I got a security system the other day. I'd never have believed that I'd end up with unwelcome people (eternal optimist) but some people don't take the hint. In fact, some people wouldn't take a hint that was comprised of being clubbed over the head with a giraffe whilst shouting 'Go away, you are not my friend and I don't like you'.

Maybe that's the key? Giraffes can be bought :) Or less subtle maybe a 10x10 sign saying 'Oh no not <insert name> again, let's set our heads on fire to avoid the pain'.

*ahem* I am actually nice to people having said that, though my patience has been sorely tried recently!

Excuse me while I have a morality crisis on selling my own inventions that I've already released as full permission freebies. ;) (The first moral crisis was on releasing them at all seeing as a bunch of those would bring a sandbox to a complete stop.)

That said, the hell with it. I've had so much interest I'd be an idiot to not put up a demo model for some token charge. *adds it to the list of things to do once the haberdashery is finished*

Wow! What a great idea. Of course, it will also cause problems for anyone trying to use a camera in the area, so it might be a little like "cutting off your nose to spite your face".

Still, if you put it up for a little while it might discourage someone, or better yet, have it move into position at the click of a object and move really high out of the way when it's not needed.

Hmm, I think I'll make one tonight and give it to you to test out Kasi...

Oh, another idea for you.

I have a little monitor thingy that uses llVolumeDetect, a LSL function that reports collisions, in a phantom transparent sheet. Whenever an AV collides with it it stores the AV name and a timestamp. Once it hits a certain number of collisions, say 10, it will IM the list as a report to the owner.

Sprinkle a couple of those around your house and you'll know exactly where and when she's been snooping. I'll come by and help you set some up tonight if you wish, it would be interesting to see how active she is on your property before you ban her.

:)

Temporary placement was enough to make peeping tom give up after an hour's frustration. It was rather funny to watch their head snap around like an Indy car wreck. :)

We've been toying with placements and deployments, temp-rezzing and stuff like that for kicks and giggles. If you can make a better one, more power to you. They work well for us because we dug a basement and paved over the top with the local terrain texture.
