From: Flavian Molinari I'm sure this is kick ass and alot of work. But if you want a 1st person shooter why not play BF2 or Halflife or Halo or whatever? Or is this just academic? EDIT: I'm not asking this to be a dick. I'm just curious. The plan was always to leverage the standard multiplayer gaming experience to draw users in to all the other wonderful things you can do in Second Life. Rather than sitting in a lobby deciding what map to play next, you have the option to head out and explore, meet people, shop, build and countless other things. Then arm up and head back into battle if you like! Though it can be work, Second Life offers a live map building interface to any land owner, time to try making your own levels!

OK, I have a page up: http://valenheavy.com/content/view/35/44/This has an early alpha (including some demo scripts you can drop in a cube to see it work) and a video of it in action.

Perhaps its time to dust off Prop 203? (aka Extending control past mouse and kboard) I had my own ideas for stripping Proxy down to its simplest format, and have it accept generic connections on your PC to generate messages without having to go through the whole XML-RPC thing - just generate the final 'say' messages that's normally done this way via the 'client.' Why? Because projects like Innerlife (see sig) require real-time feeds to work best, and overall it should also drop the script and server load from *not* needing the XML-RPC channel (or multiple). From the Proposal: From: Proposition 203 This would be the ability to integrate other forms of input into SL beyond usual mouse and keyboard, e.g. steering wheels, foot pedals, game console USB swords, and my own personal favorite, biometric devices such as heartrate detectors and EEG input for a truly immersive "metaverse" experience. Essentially we'd need a client-side API and SDK to allow us to write drivers to process the data from these devices and pass it in using a format that can be captured by LSL scripts and used to drive reactions in-world such as movement or other effects. Unfortunately, I'm busy working on the exibit for Burning Life (which also is toward an Uru project at the same time ). Once that clears a bit, I'll turn my attention toward this (unless someone else completes it first - though IL would require a specialized version to keep the overhead down). --Alan

From: Dirty McLean I am not sure if I should link directly, but I have been using a free program called JoyToKey to play SL with a gamepad for a while now. For linux users, there is a similarly named program called Joy2Key, although I have not tested this one personally. PM me a link to a JoyToKey DL if you could. I used to have a mirror for it on my website but someone took it down and I need to redownload a copy ^.~
