For those not wanting to browse through the entire magazine, the article is on pages 12, 13 and 15-17, whereas a beautiful ad for SL appears on page 7.

I really liked how Mark used the word "cyberspace" in that. It's a word that doesn't nearly get used as often as I'd like it to be!

One of the better, more thoughtful articles on SL. Notable highlights:

"As a virtual world, Second Life is the coolest thing going. As a country, it sucks."

"Perhaps we should thank the W-Hats, though. Perhaps it's people like them who will push Second Life's society to take shape. Where griefers are concerned, the question is, where will Linden Lab draw the line? And, perhaps more importantly, how?"

I resent that I wasn't told the article was being written, thus denying me the opportunity to crash the grid and make the article. This is a patentely unfair business practice.

Agreed. It is imperative that LL make available a schedule of the most opportune times for grid-wide destruction. This obvious favoritism of a particular griefer conclave should not be tolerated.

Nice to see Walker getting out from under the SLH sleazoids. Good article.

Mark is an incredibly talented writer and this is a really well done, thought provoking piece. It will be interesting to see how LL evolves enforcement policies to put more at stake than losing a free account. Kudos to Mr. Wallace.

Good article. I read it all! With my attention span thats hyper rare. But then it's probably one of the only articles I've read on SL that sounds like the writer spent more than 10 minutes inworld in their life and actually knows what goes on here

Usually it's hard to recognise they're even talking about SL because their facts are so fscked up, until they mention Aimee of course

I've always really liked Mark's writing style, even in the Herald (it makes me giggle incessently).

You lose the ability to get any kind of account on that credit card... which should at the very least limit recidivism pretty much completely. People who have dozens of credit cards don't tend to be both crooked enough to want to trash a VR game and small-time enough to think that's cool.

But if you have no plans in actually being a productive member of the VR community anyway, than who cares if you can't get a second account. You can bring the grid down once, get banned, and get some press. Then tell all your friends to do the same thing. I'm not worried about repeat offenders, I'm worried about people who decide they no longer want to be a part of SL and want to go out in flames.
