During the last downtime I decided to check out There. I've heard that its a pretty good virtual world with smoother animations.
So I got an account and checked it out. Secondlife is so much better. The colors in There look washed out, the avatars look very basic. Yes, There didn't have any sim boarder crossing issues, but Secondlife is so much better. And everything is expensive in that other game. Something else that I like about Secondlife is that its always improving. I've been in other online games that never tried to improve, they got so stale that you got board with them quickly. GO LL, you are doing good. |

Companies like Blizzard and Lucas Arts aren't very involved. I also liked how they talk about future things, even if they aren't correct about the release dates, it's still fun to know what's coming ahead. ![]() _____________________

I like how folks at LL actually read these forums and bother to reply to posts. So many companies out there don't give a hoot about what their users/customers think or feel and they sure as heck can't be bothered to make a personal reply to thoughts and inquiries. Thanks guys!

Well let's see. My first day in SL, my first 10 minutes in fact after the little help tour, someone in the welcome area sent me my first IM. It said.. "will you have sex with me?"
LMAO, welcome to SL. But yes I love it here. I can create things here I would never have the skills or the means to create in RL. I can do things here I can't physically do in SL. Try flying up to 4000m in a balloon, watch it suddenly vanish out from under you so that you plummet through the clowds to the earth, face plant into the snow and walk away without a scratch. And best of all, I have met some amazing people here, people I love and look forward to seeing every day. What's better than that? ![]() _____________________

I like SL because it IS my social life, what there is of it!!
I work an evening shift at a crappy family restaurant (hopefully not much longer). When I leave it's after midnight, everything is closed. Can't go to a bar since I'm wet & smell like grease, my feet hurt, my back hurts. Here I can come, socialize with other adults, be entertained. Best bang for my buck! And I dont even have to worry about the drive home! OH! Just had to add- No one walking around yelling "Lookin 4 1337 playaz wit level 90 skillz" ![]() |

So many companies out there don't give a hoot about what their users/customers think or feel and they sure as heck can't be bothered to make a personal reply to thoughts and inquiries. Thanks guys! It goes even farther then that. I came over from Star Wars Galaxies run by Sony On-Line Entertainment. They would come up with changes in the game that would always have you wondering if they even played their own games. The Dev's there always seemed clueless. I came to SL and the first thing you notice is the Dev's here actually know this game. There was a Christmas event that was loaded with Lindens from every aspect of the game. I played SOE games for a long time and never once saw a developer in their games. The only time SOE would listen to their players was when they would all cancel their accounts. It was a horrid environment and SL has been most refreshing of a change. You feel you are more then just a player in SL, you are a partner, a developer, all working to make SL a better place. |

I like SL because it gives me the power to fulfill desires I've had since I was in high school.
I wanted to figure out how complex systems evolved from simpler ones since I was first learned about the theory of evolution. I went to college, majored in physics and then chose to go to grad school in neuroscience, figuring that was the most complex system I could find. And although I enjoy my field, I've rapidly found myself forced into exploring the niggling details of cellular circuitry. The big picture I wanted to explore was closed to me. But along comes SL, and it gives me the tools to create little animals and bugs and plants and watch them interact with one another. It's let me explore things like simple, rule based artificial intelligence and its interaction with real humans. And it's something I do for recreation when I'm done my job and my kid's asleep and my wife is grading papers. It lets me meet up with like minded individuals who can help faciliate me learning the things I've wanted to since I was a kid. It's a new world and I feel like a little boy in it. |

SL is awesome 'cuz you never know what you're gonna see when you fly around, nor do you know what sort of peeps you may come across.
I love the randomness, and I love makin' friends with folks from all around the world. I also love the fact that it's a game, but you aren't required to do anything, but you can do anything you want. |

One gets so sick of listening to those who put down LL,if not other players int hese forums, tell me something can anyone remember thier first day in SL?..or better yet have ANYTHING good to say about LL...) You'll find that LL bashing is just part of what goes with the terrain of being a Service Provider. e.g There is never a Linden when you what one, and then you want them to smack someone, because that someone called you a nasty name, or silly stuff like that. Or people want "Compensation" when the grid goes done, or when there is a bug, or when someone puts quite huge but legal signs next to your house. It's about people thinking " Me first, Me second, Me third , etc " I used to do some tech support / customer service at an ISP in the UK, and the comments in the forums where just so ignorant, and way off mark When I left, I tried to give them the answers to the main questions being asked, but I just got abuse and stupidity in return. 3 days of that was enough. So LL get my vote for interaction with it 's customers and the fact they actually seem to like what they do, and where you have software, you have bugs.., economies, you have resessions, booms, busts. So LL have to be police, judge, world bulders, politician, urban planners, economists, and try to be fair to everyone. It's cant be easy running a Metaverise. _____________________
