Yeah, I mean YOU.
Mentors, Live Helpers, Greeters -- which looks great on paper! -- EVERYONE -- come back here and let's make the Welcome Area a positive experience again.
Time was when we would all trip over each other answering questions to help a newbie out. Let's get back to that place.

Nice to see such a positive post. Although I have not seen Torley tonight to neg rate her, yet and still I am having more fun in the WA tonight than I have in months. I blame Flip and his infernal corn.

The WA is no place for war. A Liasion should have their feet permanently concreted into the WA walk ways. 24/7.

From: Oz Spade The WA is no place for war. A Liasion should have their feet permanently concreted into the WA walk ways. 24/7. That's, uh, a really good idea. I don't see any reason why Linden Lab shouldn't have a permanent WA liaison. The coverage is now 24/7 -- just add a few more liaisons to show the flag in the WA every minute of the day. I expected they'd be rotated, of course -- it'd get boring. Bravo, Oz.

I've vowed that any time I'm going to be on for any duration (30 minutes or more... not just for an IM checkup or otherwise) that I'll check in on the welcome area for at least five or ten minutes. I encourage other live helpers / mentors / greeters to do the same. Then down the road, we'll have to have a live help/mentor/greeter versus Linden anything-goes battle in Jessie! We'll take 'em! -Flip

Intending no offense to the regular denizens, last night's re-population of the WA was miraculous! Balance had been restored. There were flowers, Birkenstocks, rainbows, CareBears, and discussions of technical topics I will never understand. Thank you for giving your time!

When I have Live Help on I don't generally do anything else anyways because I'm busy answering IMs, so I'll watch over the Welcome Area.

I am really glad to see everyone's positive response to the big debate, which turned nasty several times yesterday, about the WA. This is the community that I remember so fondly and I am with you Euterpe, last night was hilarious. Technical commentary and hair attachment consultation and questions about what furries are and who the heck knows what else happened after I left. The WA should represent the creativity and intelligence that are present in world- as Flip said best yesterday, we don't get a second chance to make a first impression. I met Flip my first day in world, and the combination of his creativity with his sincere desire to help and be friendly is the major reason why I came back. And why we are family over a year later. I have told plenty of people that despite the griefers and the nonsense which is of course going to go on, the reason I remain in SL is that I have also met some amazingly creative and funny people around the world. Let's all commit to spending some time in outreach to new members so we can keep our community alive and vibrant. Or in Flip's case, erm....insane

When I first signed up for SL and came into the 'Welcome Area' it was so nice. People were so kind and helpful and I didn't notice any disturbances from people. Now it is a different story. Some people feel a need to trash talk constantly. It is not a good 'Welcoming Environment' for a new person...or anyone else for that matter. If I walked into SL as a new person and saw what goes on now, I would have uninstalled and moved on. I left a game I was on for a very long time because it became overun by the type of people who are now running rampant in the 'Welcome Area'.
I really don't understand why people feel the need to trash talk others and cause chaos. I have never seen such an immature sight as is seen now. I will be friends with anyone, I don't care what you look like, or who you are...so I really don't understand why people are so full of hate. The only thing I can think of is that they hate themselves so much so they feel the need to be hateful to others. There is too much hate in the world as it is...do we need it in SL too? It really seems pointless to me. I've never understood hate. I don't hate these people who act this way...I pity them...for they are missing out on actually getting to know people and making friends. They feel they need to lash out and appear 'cool' to the others who act the same as they do. I don't see how making fun of people is 'fun'
Unfortunately, there probably isn't much that can be done about it...I do not and will not report anyone because that is my belief. They get enough reports from others anyways. I just pity the people who act the way they do and hope that some day they will see how ridiculous they are being and grow up.
I still go to the 'Welcome Area' hoping to be able to help a new person, which I have done many times. They often ask in IM why people are mean, neg rating, and fighting so much. I tell them that not everyone is like that so don't hold the way they act against the rest of us. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't like that type of beginning environment and leave...which is sad.

I was only at the Welcome Area for a short time last night, and though a few of the regular "entertainers" were present, they were strangely silent. It was quite pleasant and reminded me of the good old days before the nitwit invasion.

Including myself. coco P.S. Though I absolutely ADORE this whole campaign and idea of "Take Back the Welcome Area," I believe the Lindens should pay much more attention to this sort of thing. I believe anyone who comes into the Welcome Area to run off newcomers should be warned, suspended, and then banned in very short order. One such individual can cost the game how many, two, three? ten? new players in a single night. I defintely do not agree that the welcome area should be off-limits to anyone but official liasons, greeters, etc., for a variety of reasons, and don't want to see it come to that. It would just be another way the terrorists win, lol.
