There should be a weekly fee for listing land for sale

- It'll keep away land extortionists
- People will price land fairly, because they will want to sell it fast
- It'll keep people from using the land for sale list as an advertising place

What do you think?

Way to make people hate you.

Spose you supported the Classifields be taken down so that LL can extort us through the new classifields in game?

I think yes if you are selling in more than one sim concurrently, or some similar restriction. I don't think it's very fair to charge a regular user trying to sell their one plot.

Well, say you can sell 3 plots (any size) at a time for free.

Yup. Seems fair. Maybe even tiered? more than a certain amount of consecutive ads and it gets even more expensive per ad or something?

I'm all for making things less convenient for the superfluous just-another-third-party-to-pay land barons and more convenient for the little guy to do stuff without a middle man at all.

Might deter those individuals who list their 512 parcels for $9999999 :)

There should be an hourly fee for listing blaze's threads. :p

This is a great idea blaze! Though it's more of a feature suggestion.
How about making it proportional to the land price?

The problem with the idea is it will limit the avaliable properties for sale.

When I need an extra 64 m2 to fill my tier, I want as many choices as possible regardless of price. Even if the price is very high I still might want it.

Also, when I buy land to use as I need, I list it for sale at a nice profit to me. I'm not worried if it sells or not, because I'm using it. If it sells, I use the profit to replace the land and keep my original investment. It's good business. I price the land at what I think it's worth in my eyes. If it's too high for a potential buyer, they can keep shopping, but at least they had the opinion.

If we charge to list it for sale less will be listed, limiting choices.

Edit: all the land I use for stores is already listed at the $30L per week advertising for stores.

If you are selling your plot for several thousand L$ or more, I don't think a minor fee of $100L or so is unreasonable. I have never understood why there is not a fee for selling land. With the amount of land that trades hands, it seems it would be an excellent L$ sink, and would remove the free advertising disparity between content/places and land.

I like this idea, probably best with a free listing allowance. Any free system is fairly open to abuse, capping it would be unfair but a reasonable fee reduces abuse without harming legitimate sellers.

Good idea. Land extortion blows.

Edit: Land traders will complain, but I would think all they would have to do is work it into their pricing strategy and they could still have the margins they have now.

There are costs related to selling just about everything thing else (store/vendor rent, fee to list in finder and classifieds). Why is this so awful? I didn't think Blaze meant the forum listing but the inworld transaction; correct me if I'm wrong.

Of course, we may find that it might just push land advertisers off site.

I have to admit, SLExchange does keep LL honest in that regard..

Honest in what regard? SLExchange or any third party site is in no way any competition to the land find dialog. I doubt Linden Lab gives a single thought to what SLEX is doing when making decisions on what to do about advertising in SL.

Well, that simply ain't true.

Ask anyone here - nobody sells anything in the classifieds (in the find dialog) as compared to what they sell at SLExchange.

If SLExchange provides land listings for free, some people might just start listing there.

At some point. SLExchange reaches critical mass - people stop bothering with the SL Find dialog.

If HTML on a Prim comes soon, we may find that happens sooner rather than later.

Maybe this is the real reason HTML on a prim is being put off?

Perhaps LL is a tad concerned about their ability to compete.

Well, another problem with the idea is that it might discourage people to arbitrage land, which could lead to Linden Lab holding the bag, so to speak.

Not sure that's something they want.

Maybe make land under a certain size not show up in the land listings?

Rather than a weekly sales list, how about being allowed to have resident led auctions. 1 day, 3 day and 7 day bidding periods.

Good idea, that will encourage joing land into the largest possible parcel, as opposed to the smallest.

Great idea, residents should be able to auction their land like ebay.
But the land barons might not like it.
