I have my house in Roxy. Across the sim border and in Porcupine, there is a build like you are all describing. There are also three small pieces of land for sell -- 64 m2 for L$2,000, another 64 m2 for L$2,000 and 80 m2 for L$2,500.

From: blaze Spinnaker Yes, interestingly enough a particular user has made a habit of buying up the land which goes at a firesale next these plots. Why not get people twice? Once on the blackmail plot and once on all the people who firesale their stuff to get the hell out of there. Might as well just put public land scanner scripts in them, while you're at it. I buy anything at a good price. The alternative is that this guy gets the fire sale he causes and covers more of it with signs. I think this has happened in a few places where he owns about 512 sq. meters worth of 16 sq. meters plots. I don't see how this is any different from buying tons of Lindens during the GOM close and profiting when everybody's fear of a further crash proved to be wrong. My biggest problem is that land he is near is only good for prim land, yet if I sell it as prim land, he will buy it at any price unless I charge the outrageous prices he charges. So in a way I'm eating his profits, but in the end I'm afraid his tactic are working suprisingly too well.

This has been going on for a while, the past few plots of land I owned, the land around it was bought, and these HUGE hideous builds were placed there, for no other reason than to have me sell my land to them for a good price.
The last person who did this actually told me that's why he did it. So, to make a point, and because I didn't truly care, I contacted a friend of mine who was looking for land just to build things on. I sold it to her for HALF what I paid for it.

From: someone However, in the past, I've seen people (you might, by a Small Chance, remember one in particular) buy 16 meters plots and ruin entire sim's performance with land scanning devices set to constantly run on a timer, thus hogging resources and causing the entire sim to run slower. These were eventually set for sale for L$1600, or L$100 per meter - and people had no choice to buy them. In blatant cases of land abuse like this, I think the Lindens should step in, because that's what it is...ABUSE. Yes, they ought step in, but they didn't, and if memory serves, LL even argued something to the effect of "his 16m, his choice even if it does lag the hell out of the sim or beats up the LL mail relays". Indeed months after the loophole that allowed those scanners to be of benefit to anyone (i.e. the owner of the scanners), I would still find those active buggers adjoining friends' builds. I promptly purchased the parcels-of-useless-lag for L$1600, killed the scanners, and gave the microparcel to the adjoining landholder. I know I did this at least thrice, possibly more. Your world, your imagination, your asshole "neighbor" to graze the commons clear and extort payment from beyond the grave. Kinda' catchy, huh?

I was photographing a few of the plots with very large amounts of signs. I noticed an interesting new "feature" of the sign. If you click on it, it goes away for 20 minutes and tells you, "Have a nice day."
Might not be worth much, but you can get rid of it for a little while if you want now.

Well said. You could be a real leader if you were a tad more patient.

From: blaze Spinnaker There are small plots set to sale all over SL which are obviously of no other purpose except to blackmail people around them into purchasing them at exorbinant L$/M2 prices.
Are you in favor of SL doing something about this, for example, warning them that they are at risk of losing their land?
These builds ruin the value of the services that LL is trying to provide. It seems only obvious that they need to make an example of someone. well not all. then again there are larger land owner causing smaller land owers to sell. by building ugly and hugh walls.Hence the opposite is true to this statement.

From: Margaret Mfume Do you think shame would work when somebody doing this in most cases has none and cares not what others think? If adjacent plots are purchased and the land is set for sale, do you think someone looking for land is going to notice the name and associate the seller with the method used to obtain the land? Should that occur, an alt's name could be used. Someone doing public business might care about how they look in the public eye, that's more what I was trying to convey. You are right about the use of alts.
