Finally got started with tutorials. Yippie for me.

Sculptie Egg

Or, if the code isn't working yet, here is some easier C&P action:

Beer in mind that I usually go fairly quickly and refine later.

Planning on:
- Explicit information about the shader.
- At least two more modeling approaches.
- Doing up a colour map.

edit:

Oh, man. Please fix code stuff soon.
Ugh.

Looking good, Abu!

I learned something already!

I guess I'm kind of an advanced beginner. LOL I'm comfortable with 3ds Max in general, but there are still a million things I haven't discovered or used.

One thing that I haven't used yet is Editable Poly, despite the fact that SculptGenMax is actually converting the selection into an Editable Poly under the covers to generate the sculptmap.

So, I'm trucking along through the tutorial and I hit the phrase "I selected a line, Looped it, and scaled it in X and Y." And I'm thinking, "Looped it?" I go into 3dsMax, convert my cylinder to an Editable Poly, and suddenly there's this really nice little button called "Loop"!

:D

Yes, I remember that discovery myself. :D Editable poly is kind of the upgraded version of editable mesh, but the later must be kept around for backward compatability, imports and such.

OMG, I finally got some really good free time to play. Yippie!

I updated the shader to fix10 because I think something was wrong with the axis. Um, I'm pretty sure this shader will be the final version. If it doesn't work for you, hopefully I can teach you how to tweak it or even build your own from scratch. With various axis moving around and different methods of modeling that I use, I just don't know any more.

This is my first pass at this tutorial and I still have more to add as I make more passes.

Your comparison of your max material setup to a layer setup in Photoshop was really helpful, Abu! I think the lightbulb finally went on over my head. Thanks.

Sculptie Chamfer Box

http://tech-slop.serveit.org/wiki/index.php?title=Sculptie_Chamfer_Box

Can I get a cookie now?
Please?

edit:

Note that the vert density in the chamfer out of whack in-game right down the middle of four sides. That is, four meridians of dense verts have been created. If you know what I'm talking about why the dense verts go pole-to-pole in the middle of the faces, you get +3 Abu Uber Points.

I'll be sure to explain this in a later pass.

And there is a way make a meridian that goes through a corner (side edge) of a chamfer box (or just a regular box for that matter).
+2 Abu Uber Points for this one
