Not sure this is the correct forum for this but here goes- I understand some of you hold the view of "they bought it they can do what they want with it" so feel free to skip past this thread if that`s going to be your comment I`m a noob when it comes to this and need help :| To the point- I have a 2 SIMd residential community and I get people asking "Do you sell these houses?". I have just built a new one and do want to market it. However, because our community uses this house i do not want anyone else to use this house for their community (Makes sense right?). If I sell this house with a TOS of "By purchasing this unit you agree to use for personal use only. Eg No use in a project where the build is put up for rent" ..something along those lines....would this be of any help? I understand that even if I do this people will still put it up for rent if they wanted to. Someone suggested selling it as a "no copy" but for various reasons I don`t want to do this. (I use a house rezzer, what if they want to mod it and then jack it up, etc) I would just build all new homes to market but I feel this particular one will sell really well. Is it foolish to put this up with a "tos" , if people are caught using my unit for their residential community when they bought it under that TOS would I be able to bring it up to LL and get help or ..? If anything, what are some ideas I could have to market this house without the fear of someone buying it and using it in a community of their own (Which would then gain my community competition)........or sadly, is this just a risk I need to take? - are people less likely to buy "no mod/no copy" homes?

Yes, people IMO are less likely to buy no mod/no copy homes. I would suggest making them mod/transfer...no copy at first. The problem with making them copy is that you'll have 1 guy come in and buy, then have a gazillion of your houses as rentals and it hardly seems that you've gotten a fair shake only selling the copy version for a few dollars more. So be careful with copy. If it's a BIG house, then mod/copy are ok b/c who will have all the prims to copy a 400+ prim house? And why would they want to? In this case it's best to give the customer a copy version in case they mess it up placing it or modifying it. But low prim buildings are best left as no copy unless you are willing to allow the building to be copied by the customer for a one time price. Hope that helps

Hi MadamG. It is a large structure but only about 250 prims Is there another way to distribute large builds without using a rezzer? (The homes need to be copyable when using a rezzer, atleast my version does...) Hrm, maybe the safest way is to build new homes but I REALLY think this house will do great. =\

I normally put my houses as Mod, no copy, transfer. I hate it when somebody puts theirs as no transfer, If I buy something I should be able to sell it to somebody else, like in yard sales. I just can't stand no transfer when you pay for something. So, I always allow mod and transfer but no copy so they can't vend it

Jayson- what do you use to package your homes? They come in pieces and the buyer just puts it together themselves?

Nope, I put all of the items in one package or link them all up-depending on the size. If small enough, link (go into build/edit mode, hold shift and click all of the different prims, then press CTRL+L, to unlink linked prims, press SHIFT+CTRL+L) If too large, link into sections (I normally link into rooms) then make sure "only select my objects" is ticked in "tools" and go into build/edit mode, then drawn a box with your mouse over the screen until the whole house is selected. Then right-click the entire selection and click either "take" or "take copy" That will put the whole house in your inventory as a single object. When selling my houses, I take a screenshot in-game and upload it as a texture, then make a box and put this texture on it (I normally photoshop the image to include a few different shots of the house, price, prims, land needed, etc.) Then drag the house from your invent and into the box, set the box for sale to the amount you wish to sell the house and click the "contents" under sell (options are Origional, Copy & Contents) Make sure your permissions are right BEFORE boxing the house and make sure you're selling the contents of the box, it will then sell the house using only 1 prim in your shop. Stretch the box until you can clearly see the images and text on it. Then it's all ready to sell

Ah, wow! I didn`t know that trick about it linking everything as one and then you can grab it all- i was wondering how people do that. Do I have to set every prim on the house with the correct properties or just the linked object with correct properties will do? Thanks

I do it with every prim upon creation. I've never actually tested that so I don't know what happens when you wait until the very end Sorry...

The only thing about taking up the multiple linked sets as one and sticking the single item in a box is that if its a newb buying it, they are going to set it out without being in edit mode and then get really frustrated when its out in the wrong position, they go to move it and only one piece moves and they'll never get it aligned again. You'll spend time giving customer support to 'fix' it for them and if you don't, you'll get a bad rep customer service wise.
All my houses are sold mod/copy/no transfer. I won't buy anything I can't mod, if they break it, I want them to be able to be self reliant and rez a new one, but if they want my personal attention to make it right, I'm all over that too.
As for the 'I won't buy it if I can't transfer it', well, that's a decision we all make. *If* I ever actually bought another build rather than build my own, I would expect the same perms I use and would be reluctant at best to purchase a no copy since I would no doubt want to fuss with this or that texture or change this or that actual prims.
That said, my own take is this: If my builds get used for rentals, fine. More exposure for my work and I have no plans to not make more. If its a build I don't want to see out there used that way, I probably won't market it or I'd price it in a range that might discourage the rental owner from purchasing it (he/she would be wanting to keep costs down to maximize profit, right?). The latter would, of course, also probably mean that any buyer might be more reluctant to purchase than would otherwise be the case.
My $L2 for whatever its worth.
Char

A few days ago i just made the decision NOT to market any that i use in my rental community and build all new ones, which is what im doing. (The only reason why i was going to do some TOS thing was if i marketed what i used in my community) Will sell them as yes mod/yes copy/no transfer. But since the default setting of a prim is just 'resell/give away' i need to check and make sure if i change the perms on a whole object, each prim takes those new perms, too. house rezzers are a pain i always miss pieces,(with the one i have anyway, maybe theres an easier one i dont know about) but i guess its best i do it this way
