I have been working on some female body armor kind of in the vien of the BGC hardsuits, I finally got some leg pieces done but there is an interesting problem. When I attach it, after I scale, rotate, move etc to get it to fit over my leg right it looks great in the standing pose. But when I walk, or do anything besides the one animation I positioned it for it does wierd things like move up, down, side to side, but it never stays where I orignally placed it with respect to my leg. Any help would be most appreciated! ingame IM's anything is welcome =)

Sounds like you attached it to a Hip point. They float around like that when you move. Try to avoid Hip, Shoulder, and Pec points and stick to Upper Arm / Leg, Lower Arm / Leg, Chest, Spine, Pelvis, Stomach, etc.

Maybe a silly question but, is it bigger than the distance from your foot to your knee?
A pic would help if you can post one.

Here are a few, the first one is when I positioned it initially, the second one is after I took off, thanks for the help btw =) http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/6905/legarmorone0013pt.jpghttp://img399.imageshack.us/img399/5219/legarmorone0023qx.jpg

That certainly looks odd. If you don't mind, drop a copy on me and I'll check it out and get back to you.

Lucient - just a guess, here, but have you confused the right and left legs perhaps? I know I keep doing this because I look at my av from the front and my right leg is on the left of the screen. So I name it "right lower", wear it on the right, and then position it on the left

Ingenious! *blush* I was trying to attach it to the wrong leg, thanks Ben =)
however, I was wondering that since the bottom of my armor piece is lower than my foot, how do I get my av to walk on that and not have it clip down to her foot level through the ground?

I'm glad it was something relatively simple. For the clipping problem, you'll probably have to do it with a platform shoe hidden with an invisiprim. Search the Design and Scripting forums for "invisiprim" and any shoe tutorials. It's not real hard and there are plenty of threads describing the process. Edit: Here's a starter link. /109/4c/42776/1.html

ground plane issues
09-21-2005 20:43
HI Julian
hope you are still reading this forum.
Having read the PDF file on Itroduction to scripting on SL, you can define an object to treat the ground plane as the bottom limit of it's Z axis.
This is just of my head. but if you get a chance, can you try to set up a script in the armour that performs this task.
I am very new to this and am still reading up on it. just read that one yesterday.
Regards

Sirius, that won't work for attachments which are considered an extension of your avatar and are not acted upon by physics or independently collidable. The upcoming version 1.7 enables a kind of rotation for attachments that previously was only available for unattached prims so there might be hope for an end to the invisiprim / shoe trick someday, but for now that's the only method I know for platform footwear.

One option you might want to consider is using an animation to lift you slightly off the ground. I'll try to remember to drop you a copy of the open source animation overrider next time I'm inworld. You can either fill it with your own animations, or else purchase any of the multitude that are available.

I hate to make an animation simply because while I could do it, it wont look as good as I would like, i'm no animation expert and realisticlly recreating human motion is hard =/ . I've been scouring the forums for that invisiprim shoe trick, I got a script from Wuvme, but I can't figure out how to use it =P Hopefully i'll get it worked out, I really appreciate all you guy's input!

Check out SLExchange, pretty sure either that or SLBotique has the invisiprim for sale on the freebie (or $L1) sections.
