im really new to the world, so bear with me, i cant seem to take singe prims and link them permanently? a little help fror a newbie here please

Open one of the prims in the Edit window. While holding down the shift key, select the other prims that you want by clicking on them one by one. Once all the prims are selected, you can either type CTRL-L, or use the pulldown menu to link.
The last prim selected will become the root prim.
