Can no longer manipulate tiny prims

I am having terrible problems trying to rotate or move tiny tiny prims. as soon as you grab a handle the whole camera zooms back to where you can not even see the prim any more. it makes working with small prims impossible now. Anyone else having this issue and is there a work around?

Note: to reproduce use a VERY tiny prim an zoom in VERY close.

The camera "poping" back problem did not happen previous to this release. This makes working on jewelry virtualy impossible. I would like for any work around to be posted here. Please don't suggest building big and then stretching small when done. This is not an option for me (for many reasons).

Thank you!

This bug drove me half crazy the other day. I bug reported it -- be sure to bug report it. The workaround I had to use was to build by the numbers instead of dragging things freehand.

I believe I read that turning off auto camera in preferences helps this

According to this thread LL is already aware of the bug and is working to fix it. In the mean time, turning off Use Grid seems to help a little. The turn off Auto-Camera Movement thing was suggested by Uncle Linden before he actually investigated the issue and it doesn't really seem to help if Use Grid is turned on.

This is really annoying and I hope they fix it soon.

I was disappointed that 1.6.1 didn't fix this problem. As a jeweler I asked a volunteer helper what I can do. He just said to build things large and shink them down. What a mess that was. Moving anything, large or small at maximum zoom throws the camera forward a meter and all control is lost and the prims end up in never-never land.

I sincerely hope they fix it soon or my business is shot.

Otherwise I was very happy with 1.6 and 1.6.1 and think the improvements were excellent.

Workaround

I found a workaround. Type CTRL-0 multiple times to zoom in on your work. It seems to stabilize the camera quite a bit. The higher your zoom level, the less the camera will wiggle. (CTRL-9 will get you back to the default zoom level. CTRL-8 zooms you back out in steps.)

Either that, or if you have a scroll button on your mouse, you can use that to zoom in and out.

The problem isn't an unstable zoom. That works just fine. When zoomed, if you use the adjusters (move, resize, rotate, etc) on your object, the moment you move the adjuster the camera moves to about a meter past the object you were zoomed in on. Give it a try.

This happens also, occasionally, when adjusting the numbers instead of using the adjuster tools.

I've had my cam view thrown around a lot too trying to zoom in to fine details. Also, I notice that sometimes in 1.6.1, trying to Ride a vehicle will result in a VERY strange cam-angling that scoops under the ground deeply before coming back up. It's hard to describe but I just know it was not that way before. Looking forward to a fix on this. :)

Try zooming in on a spot next to the object you are working on, it is more stable then.

One solution: work big and scale down. If you scale everything up by a factor of 10 or 100, your jewlery will be easier to make in the current client. Then, you can just shrink it down to the proper size. It may be a bit of a hassle, but it's better than working with the camera the way it is.
