Prim is an abreviation for primitive, which is the term for basic geometric shapes. Everything piece of geometry in SL besides land and avatars is made of primitives.
If you want to see the prim types that are available to use as building blocks in SL, simply click on the blue button that says "build" at the bottom of the screen. The editor window will pop up, and you'll see all the different prims you can use on it (cube, cylinder, sphere, prism, tube, torus, ring). Rez at least one of each, and play around with the various parameter settings to see what they do.

In an upcoming story in a Swedish weekly magazine about SL and me  ) - I suggested the journalist to compare a prim with a LEGO (block).... And yes Chosen its a great way to see them.. next are to see what you can do with them.. visit the: The Ivory Tower Library of Primitives Building Tutorial - Natoma 210, 164, 27 (PG) I still visit it - learning new things.. and I have been in SL a lot more than a year now... /Tina |
