I'm new to Building, but want to set up a gallary of my photographs - or maybe hang them on a wall in an existing building (owner has said I can).
Can i just ask a couple of very basic things ?
Do I literally have to create a wall - then create a thin frame from a box - and put the photograph onto the frame using texture - then move the frame onto the wall ?
I did this but thought there may be easier or more advisable ways to do it.
One problem i had - I uploaded the picture - but couldn't get into into the 'Library' section so as to select as a texture...so had to use one of the default pics. How do I select my pic ?
ANY Advice welcomed.
ps I have just ordered a book on building from Amazon - but can't wait to get started.

You would be correct... you have to put the pic (texture) onto a prim.. you can use another prim to make a frame... then of course you need a wall to hang it on. All textures (pics) that you upload are automatically inserted into the Textures folder of your inventory. The "Library" is only for Linden supplied content. Search your inventory for the picture's name and you should find it..... or while in Edit mode of the picture prim.. click on the texture and find your picture in that list. Here is a video tutorial on working with Textures in SL https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=4417

From: Philipo Carling Do I literally have to create a wall - then create a thin frame from a box - and put the photograph onto the frame using texture - then move the frame onto the wall Yes rez a prim make two dimensions in proportion to the size of the uploaded texture, make the third dimension, the depth, of the picture 0.01 meters, or it can be thicker, you can decide. If you want a actual frame, there are two ways, apply a textured frame to the original image and just do the above, or if you want the frame to have a physical dimension in SL rez a second prim, hollow it and apply the dimension that suit your visual needs. position on to the textured prim and link. How do I select my pic ? When you upload a texture, it goes into the top folder, your inventory, not the library, you will find it in the 'texture' folder.

Two other things to think about ..... Read the sticky at the top of the Texture Tips forum that deals with file sizes, formats, and so forth. Although you can certainly save your photos and upload them with practically any dimensions you like, it makes sense to pay attention to the way SL treats files on upload, so that you don't waste pixels or lose detail without knowing why. Practically anything you need to know is in that sticky. Second ... Consider the possibility of saving prims and wall space by using the same "frame" to display several of your photos. You can easily find several simple scripts in SL that will cycle through a stack of textures that you drop into the Contents of a display prim, one after another --- like an automated slide show. This may not fit your artistic vision, and that's fine. I just offer it as a possible way to display a large number of photos in a limted space and with a tight prim budget. If you want to see how it works, visit the rail depot or the migrant camp on the Only Yesterday sim ( http://slurl.com/secondlife/Only%20Yesterday/179/116/31). We have three cycling displays of photos from the American Memory collection at the Library of Congress, presenting a large amount of information in a small space.
