Hello, I need to place my building on an island in a specific location, i.e. in the northwest quadrant of the site - how do I do that? How do I know where is north and how do I position my building at a particular distance from the boundaries?
Any tips? Thanks Saks

Hmmmm... Try using the MAPS. There are two buttons on the bottom of the viewer window, "mini-map", and "map". Use the MAP to get to the SIM where the island is located. Then open the mini-map. It shows your current location, the way your viewer is pointing, and the compass directions. (it also shows other avitars near by as green dots. A green 'T' is someone above you. An upside down green 'T' is someone below you.) Turn on the menu item: "VIEW" and "PROPERTY LINES". Green lines will show up on the viewer, indicating where the parcels are separated. Fly to the NW corner of the island. Stand on the North edge, face south, pull the building from inventory, and drop it on the ground. EDIT the building, using the Ctrl Key to turn it to face North.

Two ways to find due north and maybe the center of a quadrant

First way, turn on your mini map, it shows compass directions. The second way, put down any prim. The Y axis slides along north/south. As for the second part of your question, I've never had enough land to really test the best way of finding that. But I assume find the center coordinates for each direction and go from there. I.E. the center for North might be 110,250,25, so the center of the NW quadrant coordinates would be 55,250,25. The center for west might be 0,110,25, so the center of the edge of the west side quadrant would be 0.55.25. I'm no math genius, but from those I could find the center of a quadrant. Don't know if this helps, but it might be a start

Can you mirror a building in SL or will I have to re-build it?

From: Saks Kuhn Can you mirror a building in SL or will I have to re-build it? Place a mirror in front of your monitor.

If the building is too big, you can shrink the whole building, mirror it, then enlarge it. Only drawback is that, alignments get a little wonky when scaled.
