Hey -- trying to figure out something I saw at another retail location in SL. The floor texture resembled polished wood or marble . . . and it was shiny and reflective -- not of me, but of the prims in the store. How do you do that?

Its an illusion they copy the floor and put it upside down underneath the floor

It could be as Robustus Hax explained it (most likely it is) or you have RenderDynamicReflections set to true in Debug Settings in your Client menu (CTRL-ALT-D to show debug menu).
RenderDynamicReflections makes any prim, with Shininess on, mirror the surrounding objects on itself. Caution: may cause your Second Life viewer (or even your computer) to crash if your PC (or graphics card) can't handle the extra eyecandy.

If the store was Zero Style, it's prims  just cam under the floor to see all the fun
