hi, everytime i build things and take them to my inventory, i keep having problems putting them back on the floor again ... it keeps saying something like "failed to place object at specified location. please try again". i tried to put it far from me, i tried to put it closer and really close, to no avail. nothing really changed ... i just can't drop it on the floor ... and at some point again it works. i'm kind of annoyed, as it takes around 20 to 30 tries to put some prim on the floor. can someone tell me what the problem is?? thanx so much in advance.

Hi Teena,
If your floor is a "megaprim" - larger than 10m in any dimension - that may be the cause of this problem. Megaprims are non-standard, exploits of a bug in the building engine, and they don't always behave well, especially when you try to rez stuff on them.
Try rezzing on a different surface and see if it helps - I have heard of people who use megaprim floors putting down a non-megaprim rug as a little rezzing surface.

I hate that. I get around it by wearing the item on my right hand then dropping it.
Looks odd at times but it works.

occasionally the sim is just obstinate....
the issue w/ megaprim floors seems to be when the cut side is facing where you are trying to rez, so you should always face cuts away from the used areas (floor cuts should be down, walls out, etc)
assuming you've done that if necessary, sometimes it helps to rez a distance away from other things it might intersect (av's and physics enabled objects mostly) or try rezzing it against something else, like the wall a chair, etc. or use the last posters wear and drop method.

<< "failed to place object at specified location. please try again">>
I have been getting that a lot the last month or so. Rezzing on platforms made of standard prims.

That message usually means the asset server is running in circles and about to go kabluey.

Another tip for megaprim floors is to try to rez near a normal prim that has already been rezzed there - for some reason this seems to help at times.

From: Void Singer the issue w/ megaprim floors seems to be when the cut side is facing where you are trying to rez, so you should always face cuts away from the used areas (floor cuts should be down, walls out, etc) Failure to rez happens pretty consistently with me when I use 20x20x0.5 megaprim floors, which have no cuts at all. .

guess I forgot to add the caveat 'usually'... it seems to crop up more in that instance, but isn't limited to it.

well, thanx so much for all of your answers ... i tried going outside and rezzed it and it worked perfectly fine ... on the other hand, it was on the next day so i'm not sure where the problem was ... was it sl or was it indeed a megaprim?? i will definitely keep the rug in mind though, this seems to be quite helpful for furniture as i don't intend to rezz them outside in the yard and move them across the country back to the house ... hahahaha building furniture outside is no problem, and probably better anyway ... that way at least one gets a bit of fresh air ... but ... the next questions are soon to come anyway ))) thanx so much for your help and have a great sunday!
