OK.. so I'm still working on the 'project' for testing the # of things I can do with one sculpty suing the 'thread' method from DanielFox's interlocking rings tutorial. Anyway, I'm using a sphere at the moment (64 63) and am trying to figure out how to select straight rows on it properly in the vertical, as all of them are curved, so I can't easily select them.. anyone able to help me out? Maybe there's a way to rotate it while keeping the same axis view? o.o
Also, with Wings3d, what causes the 'thread' to sometimes work when sculptified while other times just freak out? Is it just the sculpty capabilities of SL or am I doing something wrong?

Well you're using too high a resolution sphere, sculpties in SL will be half that resolution. There's also a bug with the Wings exporter sphere that repeats a row of the sculpt map...

This works horizontally or vertically. From: someone Also, with Wings3d, what causes the 'thread' to sometimes work when sculptified while other times just freak out? Is it just the sculpty capabilities of SL or am I doing something wrong? To elaborate on Daniel's response, a 64x63 face sphere is appropriate for doing smooth "organic" sculpties, which is what Qarl originally designed sculpties for. But when modeling at that resolution, you have to be fairly expert to know exactly which vertices in your model are going to get used by the SL client. The relationship between what you model and what you see in SL is much simpler if you use a 32x31 face sphere. So if you are starting with a sphere, that's the size you would want to use for your current project.

Omei, this is what happens when I export the "32x31tri.wings" file provided with the exporter.

This is a puzzle, Daniel. I can't seem to reproduce it. Can you get this with the released version of the exporter or a beta version I gave just you? And what resolution are you exporting at?

Is it possible to start with a cube in Wings to make a sculpty? Haven't tried, can you make it with the '32x31' thingy too or..would it just not work?
Sorry lol.. don't have a comp with wings here to try so asking... ^_^

You can make a cube by shearing a plane in half, folding the two parts in thirds and then sticking them together.
