Hello, Im experinced in making 3d models with "3DS Max" and "Milkshape 3D" since Im a modder for a well known real-time strategy (RTS) game. But Im depressed in making Objekts with the SL editor and the Skinning/Mapping of those objects is pretty awful, too. So my question is: Is it possible to convert models from 3DS Max or any other modelling programs into SL? Thank you very much in advance for your help.

SL objects only use parametric primitive shapes. You can convert polygons in prims and you end up with a 1000 prim object. You can build prim like in a desktop 3D mesh editor and export/import them as text. Offline building in Max Unless you want an offline backup or don't want to use SL's building interface, building in SL is the best solution.
