Not quite sure if I am doing something wrong, but I can't figure this out. I created a couple items... one being a dance floor circle (pictures attached) out of a sculptie that I made in 3D Max. As you can see in the images it came out fine. However when I try to get in the dance area of it I float a couple meters above it. I also created a sculptie couch and when I approach the couch from the front I get about 2 meters away from it and I start walking over it. If I choose to sit on it I end up sitting a couple meters in front and over it.

What am I doing wrong?

This is normal for a sculpty, you're not doing anything wrong. :)

The physcial Bounding Box for sculpted prims does not match their actual shape. The bounding box is a sphere that surrounds your sculpted prim. The server sees your sculpty as a sphere because it does not 'decode' the sculptmap to create the actual shape.

To stand on your dance floor you'll need to make it Phantom. You can find that option when you edit your object - under the Object tab. For the couch you'll need to script a Sit Target so that the user will sit in the correct spot.

You can use 100% transparent prims over top of your Phantom sculpties if you still want people to bump into them.

What method are you using to export sculptie maps out of Max?

Did you un-check the "proportional" box before you generated the map?

No I didn't, I always keep it checked. Should I?

Try it without proportional checked.

You will have to rescale the sculptie to the proper proportions in SL, but its bounding box will be right to the edges. With proportional checked your sculptie will have it's longest dimension to the edges of the bounding volume and the shorter dimensions will be proportionally inside the volume.

See the SculptGenMax FAQ item #11
