Hey, guys.
I'm new to SL and to building.
So, I have some questions, I hope you can solve that, please.
I made one house and attched two doors (upstairs and downstairs) to the whole house object, so the house itself and the two doors became only one object. Then, I have a problem with it. Using a door script in the doors' prim, when I try to open them, the doors just open wrongly, since it isn't rotating by the doors' axis but by the whole house object. So, I was thinking the only way to solve that is to take 3 objects (one for the house, and two for the two doors) instead of only one for it all. Am I right os is there another way to solve that? If so, post it here, please!
Also, I'd like to know your opinions about "rez foo", didn't use that yet, but I'm thinking of use it on future houses I'll make. Does it run properly? Because I'm thinking one thing... if the rez foo rez the whole house itself, with the doors, in only one object, my problem probably will continue. Or does the rez foo rez the 3 objects instead of only one (is it up to my choice?)?
Thanks in advance for all who'll reply it!

I'm not sure I understand your description of what's happening with the doors, but I'd guess your problem is you didn't cut the doors in half. In SL, an object's pivot point is always its center. Since a door has to pivot on its edge, the solution is to cut in half, which effectively turns the center into an edge.

As for whether or not to link the doors to the rest of the house, that depends on the script you're using. Some require the door to be a unique object; some allow it to be linked to other things. I'd highly recommend using the latter type.

To answer your questions about Rez Foo, yes, it works great, and yes, it's your choice whether it will rez the house all as one linkset or not. It rezzes what you put into it. So, if the house is unlinked when you put it in, it will be unlinked when it comes out, and vise versa.

Thank you very much, Chosen.
In the first time you didn't understand me actually (and I know what I spelled was a bit confused, since it was a confusing problem).
By the way, I already did cut the doors by the half and it works when it's only one object and not when it's attached to house.
Is there any free door scripts of the last one you mentioned? I'll try to look for these. I'm using those ones which requires to use door as a unique object, like you said.
But at least if I use Rez Foo, the doors should work properly since it'll continue like a unique object if I put it this way.
Thanks, thanks.

Timeless door http://lsl.dimentox.com/snippet.php?sid=7 allows for uncut linked doors.

ed44, if it's what I think it is, this is the answer of all my questions about doors' rotation.
I'll give it a try and post back, thanks for information.

edit: OMFG. IT REALLY IS! THANK YOU SO MUCH! \o/

Once again, I am here, just didn't want to create another thread. But needed to reply again, this way the thread go up.

So, I have a question about circles in buildings in SL. I saw some images from items in SL which have some (almost) perfect circles. I am wondering if it is made using blender, or is it possible with client edit window?

And another question is about Phantom status in prims. I created a "personal oasis", with sand, water etc. My problem is: when I put the water as Phantom and attach it to the other prims of the oasis, water goes normal status and not phantom anymore. When I put the water prim as the root object, the whole oasis goes phantom (sand, trees, chairs etc). Is there a way to make a prim phantom in a whole normal object?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it's possible with the plain old editing tools. No 3rd party stuff is required. I posted a tutorial while back for how to make a giant cylinder out of cut sections of smaller ones. Unfortunately the pictures got deleted from the forum database, but hopefully the text is enough for you to follow. I've made circles well over 100M in diameter with this method.

I've actually got a more refined method now, which works better and is much easier than the one in the tutorial. I'm hoping to find the time to turn into a tutorial soon.

You might also want to check out Cadroe Murphy's Shapemaker and Ringmaker tools. They automatically construct large objects out of cubes. You end up with a more faceted look than by using cut cylinders, but if you're okay with that, it works well.

What you're seeing is normal behavior. Objects cannot be partly phantom. It's either all or nothing.

If you'd like to know why, it's a limitation of the physics engine. It's not smart enough to calculate how collisions should work on an object that's only partly tangible. If and when we ever get our now 2-years-overdue Havoc upgrade, we should have more options. Until then, just don't link the water to the rest of the oasis.

Thanks, Chosen!
I hope it can be used to make little circles for water fountains, I'll try that.
But, anyway, if it isn't and someone will post here, I'll give some examples of what I meant when I spelled circles:
http://www.slboutique.com/index.php?p=buy&phrase=fountain&n=5&itemid=67374&user_avatar_id=&nh=
http://www.slboutique.com/index.php?p=buy&phrase=fountain&n=7&itemid=66205&user_avatar_id=&nh=
http://www.slboutique.com/index.php?p=buy&phrase=fountain&n=8&itemid=88485&user_avatar_id=&nh=

As I tried to follow the tutorial, I didn't see the results I wanted.
Don't know if it's because the images are gone, or it isn't really what I wanted in first time.
Any other ideas?
And thanks one more time, Chosen, for your time and patience!
