Doing windows on a house??

I read the other questions and replies about windows and am still lost. I am building my house... or attempting to(my first major big build on my own). I have my walls up and want quite a few windows in this one.... ideally a few big picture windows a smaller "bay" window for over a kitchen sink and several other windows probably of different sizes depending on the wall size. I am stumped as to how to go about putting windows in or where to find them. I have saw windows in texture stores and wonder how these are used as well. Anyone with suggestions or can help please send me a message in game since I don't keep the web site up and have trouble not getting kicked offline when I bring up the web site for some reason or other. Anyone wanting to see more what I am meaning can go by my house. Look in my profile n use the teleport for home away from home.. it is quite a distance from the telehub... something like 1200m from what I was told before. Maybe I'm doing things backwards or doing them "in order" that one does things for building a home and ANY suggestions is welcomed.

A couple of ways to make windows would be:

When you place the prim for the wall, hollow it (it can be hollowed in various shapes) and then you just fill the hole in the wall with another prim with the window texture on it. This is probably the "middle ground" way.

Leave gaps for windows between walls then fill them in with window prims as above, this is a good way to get strange shaped windows, but uses more prims than the other way.

Create custom textures, of a wall with the window already in it, and texture the wall with this. This method saves masses of prims as the window/wall becomes 1 prim instead of wall/window/windowframe/whatever, but is far more time consuming and you'll need to be familiar with photoshop/paintshop pro/GIMP or another art package to do it.

Be aware though if your windows are partially tranparent the ENTIRE wall will be affected by the "alpha bug". (the one where the client incorrectly places another) What this means is that any wall you use this technique can be odd when you move the camera around if you have another object near it with an alpha value. In short, yes it saves prims, but has it's own issues.
