I would like to find someone ingame who I can contact with questions I have when I run into a problem. They don't have to be with me at the spot. I would like to find some very knowledgeable to answer questions ingame about building, textures etc. How would I go about finding such a person? I feeI allready "bug" the help channel too much. And most Lindens are quick to reply. Is there someone out there who doesn't mind a newbie asking questions when they run into a situation? I usally only can log on during the evenings for a couple of hours at most. I know the following programs. Turbo cad, Paintshop Pro 9, Photoshop Cs. Poser 6, and Bryce.
My goal would be to make a huge space station. I think it would be neat to attempt. You can contact me ingame or here. I won't take up too much of your time, just when I run into problems. Hope this is the spot to post this.. Ps; I am not ready to stay In Charator, so please no one who is role playing. I need someone who will answer OOC>

Hello, Cyg!!
I am moving your thread to the Building Forums--where it will, I am certain, get the attention it deserves, and you will get the advice you seek.

Good luck!

Bump,
I did have a good talk with zapoteth. Is there anyone interested in joining this newbie for a Space station structure? I haven't been doing so well on the social side of Sl. So instead of bumming out I decided to build. Well try it anyways. The goal is to link your item, be it ship, house etc. To a set standard hub. The hub's access (still in progress) , will be only have entrance by flying up. Then you walk to any station you want too. I want the flying to simulate a space chute. Well this is just the beginning.
Anyone interested come to the mature Sand grounds and start building along with me. You can be male or female. Just have fun. We can, if this works out start a script for certain things too. One idea is too have the ships simulate docking, another is to have the lights turn on as you walk by then off again. Another idea is to have blinking things, turning solar panels etc. Swishes like in star trek when you enter or leave a door way. The possiblities can be endless. I don't want any money. You can have anything I build if you want. My daily allowance is sufficent for me. So post here or just show up. I am not going to role play this toon. This is going be me and I will respond in the same manner. I will log on during the evenings, so if your cst time, then subtract or add according to that. Im me ingame if you want to hook up, or just show up. If this thread gets any response, then I managed to accompish something, if it doesn't oh well. I build when I bored anyways. lol

sandboxes
03-16-2006 12:22
I've found that if I spend some time in the sandboxes I will sometimes get people to come over to watch or ask questions. Since i'm only like 30 days old, I'm a terrible builder, but I enjoy playing around. Sometimes I also just like to watch someone build. It's quite annoying to show up in a sandbox and have it full of junk. I've also been "spammed" in a sandbox where some shop owner just showed up rezing their items and then pestering anyone around about how nice theire wares were and offered landmarks. I've also spent some time teleporting to some first land areas and caught some builds going on.
I guess what I'd really like to see if other new builders have as much trouble as I do trying to build. I've been through the ivory tower, but I still struggle.
I do like the sandboxes though. Sometimes they're inspiring. I wonder if there is a list of good/appropriate objects to try and build as a new builder.
I know i've tried to make a pool, a scooter, and a cartoon house, but the more I travel in SL the more amazing things I see.
I guess I really need to take some teazer's or new citizens classes.

My goal would be to make a huge space station. I think it would be neat to attempt. Hello, cyg. We've built similar things to your spaceship in my sim named The Future. Imaginary Prototype built a huge spaceship complete with views of space. Seifert Surface has created wonderful buildings. We're always looking for talented builders. We provide a location and prims for your work. Please contact me, Seifert Surface, Kim Anubis, or Gus Plisskin in-game if you'd like a tour.

cyg Bligh, I am Imaginary, Chase mentioned my "spaceship" it's a 1/3rd scale fairly "canon" replica of the original Battlestar Galactica from the 1978 TV series. It sits at about 725 meters high in the "The Future" sim. I am maybe interested in your space station concept, but if you have not allready found out, there is no true space in second life, the best one can do is to simulate space by enclosing your creation in a space bubble with space scenes on the inside surfaces and transparent on the outside surfaces and made "phantom" this makes it look like you are in space from inside it, you don't really see the space bubble from outside (except for the side of the bubble on the far side of the creation), and you can fly through it ( reason for the "phantom" , or to have everyone there who wants to see it as invisioned in space force night time in the sim environment, and then put the creation at a high altitude (about 760 is the "controlable" and workable limit to how high one can build). I also would be willing to help you with building and texturing, i claim not to know it all but have figured out a few things with building, the limits on building, textures, the sizes and resolutions one can import texs, how to scale and position the texs, etc.. One of the biggest limits on building is the number of prims you can use, a entire sim only allows for 15,000 (the Galactica uses about 3000), and finding a permanent place to build without having to own a sim. Also, large complex curves have to be built with individual panels, a prim can only be 10x10x10 meters max. there are tools for making circles and spheres with many prims automatically, but irregular curves have to be done by hand placement of many peices, kinda like a real large curve on a real building or bridge is made. Anyway, I digress, I am usually in game after aboutg 9 pm CDT most evenings except for class nights of monday and wednesday.

I will take snap shots of what I have working on at the moment. I was contracted to start working on an airport, but the person never left thier id name. I will do this today, I have a working hub, and a generic comso type ship to attach to it. I will im you both in game I want to see your work. I find the mature sandbox the best place to do builds during the week. more to come.

ok this is rude, but its my first actual build, but here was the idea. you fly into the bottom of the so called hubs. I would need a sliding door on the bottom after you hit your head on the bulk head. . The fall down is a killer too. . You then enter your spaceship to the left or the rigtht of where you docked it. The hubs can be set up at random spots. This way anyone who wants to dock or attach to it can. This would be a free service for those who want to experiment with thier ships. You don't need an alternante reality for space, the flying would simulate it. Its just a thought. I am looking forward to seeing all these exciting builds. http://netnet.net/~walnutw/Uploads/Second%20Life%20snaphots/ the control tower is a rough idea for an airport.

I am now six and half weeks old this is my thread that I started and I wish to thank all those who helped me get this far in secondlife without haveing to buy land. These are the works that were contracted out to help me get this start. I post them here for your enjoyment. If you need any custom work done you can now contact me, and as far as pricing goes, I have an agent that handles that now. And his company is some of the best architechts in the game. They taught me alot about quality builds. There is alot more to learn. I won't list names cause there are so many who helped but they know who they are and I appreciate each and everyone of em. http://netnet.net/~walnutw/Uploads/Second%20Life%20builds/
