Need help with "Take Copy" permission

Hello,

I've created an original object which I'd like to be able to sell. Under the objects "General" tab, I've checked the "For sale" button, entered my selling price, and marked the copy button under the for sale (presumably this means I'll be selling copies of the object and not the original object?) I've also checked mod/copy under "The next owner can" section, because I'd like people to be able to edit this item, but not resell it. However, a friend pointed out to me that, even with these settings checked, he can take a copy for free without paying for it. I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out what needs to be done to make the "Take a Copy" feature disappear. I'm new to selling and persmissions, so maybe it's something silly that I'm not seeing? I've tried to find my answer in the forums, but was unsuccessful.

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you!

The "take copy" should only apply to you - the creator.

Have you got it set to a group?

Were you wearing a group tag when you made it?

Check all of those under the edit tab where it says "creator" and "owner"

Thats the only thing i can think of.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. :)

Yes, I was wearing a group tag when it was created; I didn't even think of that. I went in to EDIT and set the group to none, but even with that change, my friend could still take a copy without paying. :(

Any other ideas?

sorry that didnt work :(
I've no other ideas, but when i'm in-world i'll have a look and see what the story is with my own stuff.

I presume you've unchecked the option on the edit screen somthing like Anyone Can Take a Copy? Make sure there's not a dot in that either.

I appreciate the help. My friend and I (me in particular, LOL) are going crazy trying to figure out why this isn't working. I have a feeling it's something silly... and I thought your suggestion for the group thing was it... but it doesn't seem so. *sigh*

And, I've never touched the "allow anyone to copy" so it is unchecked.

Does your friend have modify rights on your stuff?

(straw clutching)

How would I know whether or not he does have modify rights? Is it a check box somewhere?

There is a checkbox in your friendslist when you select a person (same place where you can set wether they can see you online and/or on the map).

Hmm. That very well could be.

I'm at work and can't get on SL for, oh, another 7 hours or so... but I will check out if my friend has modify rights as soon as I get home.

Thanks so much for the tip! Will let you know what happens. :)

Just wanted to report back that Ace's suggestion worked; my friend had mod rights to my stuff, so that's why "Take Copy" would always appear. I unchecked that box under my friends list, and my friend could no longer take my item. :)

Thanks so much for EVERYONE's help with this; I truly appreciate everyone taking the time to help a new creator. Thanks. :)

Glad you found a solution!

It was beginning to bug me as to how it was possible with all the rest of the stuff ticked/unticked! :D
