This may be a noobish question but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere. Is it possible to export a sculpted prim to sl with the surface texture on it already or do u need to export them separately? Im using Maya.

You need to do them seperately. In Maya you'd bake a texture map in addition to exporting your sculpt map, upload that to SL, and apply it to your sculpt object like you'd apply a texture to any other prim.

I'm not sure what you mean by "on it already". If you mean will the texture be on the object as soon as it's created in SL, the answer is no. The geometry and the diffuse texture are two different things. You'd upload your sculpt maps and diffuse maps as separate items, and then you apply them both to the same object after they're in-world. There are automated systems available which would ordinarily make this easier, but they're a little broken right now.

If you mean can you generate sculpt maps and baked textures at the same time, the answer is yes. See Qarl Linden's advanced sculpty exporter. http://www.qarl.com/qLab/?p=49

Note, the exporter utilizes the Maya software renderer, which is not the best. If you want the best possible renderer for baking, it's called Turtle (illuminatelabs.com). Or, if you're more of a massechist, it's possible to get spectacular results with Mental Ray, if you're willing to do all the extra setup work it requires.
