This may be simple but I have been trying to figure this out for a bit. Just started building and am trying some basic things.
I'm trying to make a U shape from a box that will only be 1 prim. I take a box .. stretch it to 10X10 and then hollow it .80. I then cut a path to remove one side of the box. That works but the ends that I cut are tapered.
Is there a way to cut off one side of the hollowed box so that all the sides of the U are square? If they were square I could butt two of these together to make a 10X20 wall.
Thanks in advance

Normally, no. But you could make one with a sculpty.

Yes and no. You can square the cuts, but in doing so you lose half the 10m prim. Set the "Begin" cut to 0.125, and set the "End" cut to 0.625. That equally cuts the cube in half, giving you square edges. However, you've just lost 5m of your 10m prim.

yes but it will be 10x5 cliped fron tiny prim post: cutting a cube starts in the corner for some reason so it doesn't naturally want to make a straight cut through one side and out the other. you can get one manually though by using the numbers 0.375 and 0.875. bingo, we just cut that cube in half. it's a rectangle though and we want a cube so keep cutting til you get to 0.625 and 0.875. -LW

If they were square I could butt two of these together to make a 10X20 wall. look for the texture "totally clear" in your inventory, and drag-n-drop it onto the angled edges. then butt the shapes together until inside the box, you see the inside edges are tightly together. it'll be slightly less than 20m across, so compensate with your end walls. the center line along the "roof" side may flicker, but it's outside so ignore it unless you're adding another story, in which case, repeat the 1 prim U shapes and stack 'em.

Thanks .. this is what I did at first .. just slid the pieces together until they met with the tapered peices inside the other. But as you mentioned, this caused a flicker. I didn't try it with the totally clear texture. I'll try that and see if it reduces the flicker to something I can live with.

The totally clear texture is not going to affect your exterior flicker at all. The problem is you've two different surfaces occupying the same space at the same time. Just turning the beveled edge invisible isn't going to solve that. The beveled part is not the part that's actually doing the overlapping. It's not even facing the same direction.
I'd suggest you move the two U's back out so that they meet end to end instead of overlapping, and then either live with the two V-shaped channels, or else fill them in with a couple of triangular prims.
So you know, you can get rid of the bevels by having your cut go from 0.875 to 0.375, but you'll be losing half your length that way. You will have cut your prim down to 10x5 instead of 10x10. So if you want your building to be 10x20, you'll need to put a 10x10 wall in between the two U's on each side.
A third option would be simply to make one of the U's a little bit narrower than the other, so that you don't have any surfaces in the same place. If you made one of them 9.98M wide, and kept the other 10, then you'd be able to do your overlap them with no flickering. However, you will have an obvious line where the two prims overlap.
I'd suggest you just live with the beveling. Chalk it up to "that's just how SL works" and call it a day. With clever texturing and good interior decorating, you can mask those bevels pretty well.
