Furniture builders and scripts

What do furniture makers do for scripting builds? I've made some seats with the basic sitting scripts but I'm fed altering the rotation ecetera in my haphazard manner. I would also like more interesting poses. To that end I bought a posing script today. It said it could be 'used in your builds', what I didn't realise was that it was set to no copy, so I can't make furniture with it to sell. Are there scripts out there I can use?

edit: I decided not to post this in the scripts forum because it is aimed a builders and is about how to avoid scripting more than anything else!

Actually, what you want is the Animations forum, as it is the animations that make the pose what it is, and which usually are the limiting factor on resale. There are some free sit animations available, but most are fairly basic, and in pretty widespread use.

If you act fast, like before Friday of this week, you can go to Content Paradise and get a FREE copy of Poser 5, for Windows, Macintosh, or both platforms. If you make your own original pose animations there, and save them in .BVH format, you can import those into Second Life as animations!

IM the creators

Quite likely, you can IM the creators of poses and animations, and negotiate some kind of builder rights.

Or, go to Bits and Bobs. They have copyable versions of their stuff, at a slightly higher price, just for builders like you...

I don't think there is a way around adjusting rotational and positional vectors if you are wanting to set your animation directly into the furniture, as opposed to just making a usual poseball and plunking it on the furniture.
You could check the Scripting Library archives.. I'm pretty sure there must be a free poseball script in there that you could modify, copy and transfer so that you can make saleable furniture.

Thanks for the replies. I did find that the company I bought the non-copyable pose from, Essensual Designs, actually sell copyable versions in another shop specifically for designers. You have to join their group but it is free. The copyable versions are more money of course. They were very helpful and even reimbursed me for the non-copyable version, which was good of them as it was my mistake.

Bits and Bobs look like another alternative. They have some good stuff.

I realise I'm going to have to alter the vectors if I want to attach a script directly to furniture. These poseballs make a good alternative though. It's a case of seeing what people buy. I do wonder if some buyers might prefer paying less for the furniture and buying their own poseballs though.

thanks!

You could always offer two versions; have a clearly marked vendor for poseless items.

Tweaking the values in a script to position an animation isn't too much bother - I did it a lot recently with a bunch of poseballs I made, which all had different default heights for the poses. Some of the balls would be up round your ears and seated you on the floor. I just played with the coordinates until the animation roughly sat you on the ball itself - I'm not a scripter but it was quite painless. The same would apply with putting the animation and script in the seat of an armchair, you'll just have to poke the figures until it looks right.

Only thing that method will limit you to is if for example you have a large sofa which you want to allow several people to sit on, you'll need as many cushions - one big one won't work. Another thing to consider is that people are familiar with poseballs still - they understand that sitting on them will animate them. I'm not sure how important that is, but it's possibly worth note. In favour of removing the balls, they're more prims people might need to save.

Anyway, just to say again that I think selling both versions would be a really great idea. When I used to shop for furniture I was often put off by the set poses which I wouldn't be able to change - and there are also people who will want them in because they won't want to do it themselves. Might as well sell to both markets, double the profit!

Hi Erin, thanks for that! It had crossed my mind to create two versions, one with and one without poseballs. After your post I think I'll go ahead and do that.

thanks

Mo money mo money mo money. And, uh, customer satisfaction, that too...
