Note: I've decided to double-post here, since this question is directed mainly at builders.
Over the last month(s) i've developed an AI script for scale-model fighters (the F-86 and mig-15 by Aleksandr Martov), and i've been thinking about the possibilities of distributing a modifiable version of it, thus enabling builders to create their own designs.
The current version has the current features:
Escort mode - patrols the vicinity of the owner
Formation flight - if there's more than one fighter in the air at a time, they will fly in formation.
Air to air combat - if a fighter locates an enemy fighter, they will engage in air to air combat. This part has been made to look as impressive as possible. Planes loop, roll and engage airbrakes in their attempts to outmaneuver the enemy.
Air to ground combat - the fighters are able to do strafing runs on ground targets, but i'm not sure if i will implement this in a pet version of the fighter.
Feedback is much appreciated. If enough people show interest for this idea, i will start working on it.

I, for one, would love one!
Would the patrol mode be able to shoot people who shot me in the sandbox? That always gets annoying, and having a fighter jet bodyguard could help...

This reminds me (for some reason) of the pigeon wars people have - sending up their pigeons to entice or confuse birds in rival pigeon flocks to join and increase their own flock. Could neighbors with mini fighters send them up to fight each others planes for fun? I'm sorry - just ran off on a tangent here...

Heyh, seems my idea is popular enough Yep, the fighters would be able to engage other fighters in combat if both owners wanted them to. When it comes to attacking AV's, i'm not planning to implement anything of the sort. ..Sorry for the late reply by the way, been quite busy lately. |

Whoops - how time flies. I've pretty much shelved second life and everything not directly related to work or studies lately, which is why i decided at some point to give away freeware versions of a lot of the stuff i've made. I've popped in from time to time, but the effort of turning the fighter script into an easily customisable script that can be used to make fighters with different flight characteristics, strengths/weaknesses and soforth just seems way too huge at the time. I might make a few changes and release a version that lets you make your own fighters, but unless i decide to make the project opensource, noone will be able to customize anything but the model itself. Or i might make some base kits for different kinds of aircraft; who knows. Right now, though, i'm in over my head just trying to finance my studies.
