Good news, Space Navigator users! The latest release of blender, 2.46, is now available for Mac OSX, and it works with the 3D Connexions plugin for blender.
I followed Ettore's tips at the 3D Connexions forum, and was able to quickly configure the Space Nav with the right speed and directions that suit me in blender. It's so awesome it's making me enjoy using blender too much, even!
It also seems to work with Domino Marama's awesome sculpty import/export plugins for blender, but I'm not 100% sure that everything works, because ... I'm too newbie to really put it through its paces. (I'm still trying to figure out how to make a sculpty object with a hole in it [such as a window frame or picture frame].)

http://download.blender.org/release/Blender2.46/Yes 2.46 does work fine with my scripts, with or without a Space Navigator. Nice to see I've improved the scripts to the point where more and more people call them "awesome" For frames, start with a torus - 4 X 4 Y 0 multires. Adjust to the basic frame shape and I tend to move the UV map around as well to adjust where the details are. Bake that and reimport to use as a base for the full detail sculptie.

That worked fabulously. Thanks again, so much. Now that you've made it possible for me to create such sculpties, I am going to have soooo much fun in Second Life. I really appreciate that.
For those who are curious to see this, I attach a snapshot of the frame Domino describes. I followed the steps exactly, and it looks great. That's me, standing behind it.
