Linking object failed

OK didn't know whether to put this in here or in scripting tips ( please move if you feel it inappropriate )

I had a HUD ( emphasis on HAD )

Wanted to add some more buttons to it and do a quick redesign.

So i dropped it in world - unlinked it all - created the new bits and rearranged the other pieces - then finally started to link it all up again.

When i got to the final part - the root prim - I got "objects too far apart - link failed" ( they are within 3 meters of each other )

Attempted a different route - unlinked what i had and linked it in groups - got to the final prim - same "objects too far apart".

Started getting annoyed.

Unlinked the whole thing again.

Selected the object closest to what i want as the root prim and selected the root prim ( that is now 2 objects within 10 cm's of each other ) - CTRL L - same again

"Objects too far apart - link failed"

Anyone got any ideas ? Or shall I just rebuild the whole thing and transfer all of the content over to the new one ?

( Added info - each prim has at least one script, notecard and texture - I disabled all of the scripts to be safe )

Today aint gonna be my day.

link distance is a based on size of prims and distance, try finding the smallest prim you use and enlarge it. Maybe it helps.

Although linking still is kind of fickle sometimes. If you think it's a linking bug, try drag copying all prims, and try linking the copied prims (the ones in the original location).

Anyone got any ideas ?

Select all prims of your HUD (with rectangular selection tool that shows when you hold down the mouse button) shift-click on what's to be root prim to unselect it, then shift-click it again so it's the last selected prim in the set... then Link them all at once.

Rectangular selection tool is nice in the sense it selects items more on less 'in order' along axis. So each new prim that gets linked to already linked set is fairly close to previously linked prim. At least that's how i understand it, it certainly helped me to re-link the house after i hit the un-link with wrong item selected and then couldn't get it back together due to the distance error >.<

You might want to try shift-dragging all the prims to leave duplicates behind, and then deleting the originals. I've had it happen before where a recently unlinked object refuses to relink for some mysterious reason. In each case, when I've replaced all the prims, the new ones link just fine. Prims just get FUBAR'ed sometimes, and the only solution is to get rid of them.
