Does anyone know what the possibility is of a Building engine that is seperate from SL Using the same rules as SL but run solely on the Users computer? After which it can be uploaded to the server the same way as Animations, sounds, or textures. If anyone knows if this is in the works, I'd like to know. Thanks.

Off-Line Sandbox Sim

Once again Thanks to Chosen Few for his Directions to the other posts. But I have found after reading those posts, I am wanting something else. I guess the best way of putting it would be an off-line Sandbox Sim. This add-on to SL would allow you to use all the assests you have in your inventory, use the same building principles that act upon your building except the Lag and Lack of space you have in most Sandboxes. I think that this would be the best way to build, then you are confined to the Physics of the SL world. Does anyone know if this is ever going to be a possibility? Also you get to use your Avi off-line which you have become used to. Thanks for any responses.

this would need to connect to the live asset server to get your inventory, etc. I suspect Linden Labs would be most displeased if this was implemented. Plus, every time you have to download an SL client, you'd need to rewrite your application

I am actually talking about Linden making the Off-Line Sandbox Sim. Also, if this was done why not store the assests on the users PC. This would negate the possibility of things being lost due to server crashes etc. I know that it would require changes along with the full grid application, but I think it would be worth it in manhours saved to the customer, ie us, from Lag and down time of the servers.

...because others would then have something to look at and tinker with,, and before you know it,, any and everything would be compromised, it wouldnt take long or much to get into all those protected scripted objects.

In other words, it would open pandoras box.
