I've made a few small 'chip' diamonds out of tiny prims.
All went well until I tried to put a bit of sparkle in them with a stock bling script. What I find is the 'center' of the prim is really the center of the original one before I dimpled, cut and tortured it.
That center is way off to the side of the resulting tiny prim so the particle source is not inside the tiny prim.
Is there a way to solve this little problem?
Hopefully I'm not too late in replying to this question. Not that I'm an expert in particle systems or scripting (yet).
There is no way that I know of to change the start location of particles. All particles come from the "emitter" (with my limited knowledge is the center of the object).
You could also possibly set the beginning alpha (same as transparency, opacity) to a very low value so that the source was not apparent then using an apropiate style of particle burst it could appear as a sparkle on the surface of the object.
Probably the best answer to this question so far is as mentioned use a different "untortured" prim as the source for the particles. Setting the "diamond chip" as the target object. That in combination with a low or no beginning alpha should give you the effect you want.
Just remember the un-politically correct phrase
"there's more then way to skin a cat"
or the more politically correct
"there's more then one way to do something"
This is mostly a therotical suggestion since I haven't used particles for this purpose. If you already have a particle script that is close to what you want and is modifiable. I would be happy to help in-world.
