Is this a
i) castle turret?
ii) turret like on a tank or plane?
iii) a medieval siege weapon?

and are you trying to script it if its like ii?

Better post this in the scripting section then. Several people have built scripted turrets but they are being sold. I wonder if theres a free turret script.

What exactly are you confused about? If it's making the turret actually function, then I agree with Cottonteil; the scripting forum is the place to go.

However, if all you're looking for is building advice, then you came to the right place. I'm hardly a tank expert, but it seems to me a turrent doesn't really qualify as an "advanced object". Thye basically break down into 2 shapes, the body of the turret, and the cannon barrel. Beyond that it's just a qestion of detail.

Doing a quick Google Image search for "tank turret" shows that turret bodies come in various shapes ranging from cubical to himspherical. The turret of a Sherman Tank, for example, appears to be little more than a handfull of cylinders and a couple of half spheres. For something more modern, like an Abrams, the turret appears to be mostly just a few cubes stuck together. In both cases, the barrels are just cylnders, obviously.

I'm sorry I don't have a more concrete answer. I realized you asked for a guide, but without knowing exactly what you want to build, conceptual answers are all I can give. Really what it boils down to is learning to see how objects break down to basic shapes, and learnig to use SL's modeling tools to put it all together.

If you want a step-by-step guide, maybe post a picture of the type of tank you're trying to build?
