im very new to this game, so im just trying to get my charecter to look similar to me at this point lol
ive seen how to create items, i did make a ring in a sandbox area , i clicked wear but it just kind of floated around me....
my big question is, once your item is created, how do you save it to your inventory and make it so when you wear it, the item knows were it should be worn.
are there any tuts on this? i might have overlooked it, if so i apologize, and are there any tuts as far as making detailed hair?
thanks for any and all help =)

Don't just click wear - attach it to the desired attachment point and edit it into position. The next time you wear it, it will go back to that point.

ohh, i actually just noticed how you can set it to a certain position, but how do you put it in your inventory?
i also forgot to add...when you make something you want to keep does it have to be made on your own land? or can it be made in a sandbox?

When you detach, it should go into your objects folder by default. You can then move it to another folder.
You can build anywhere that allows building. Look for the box icon on top of your screen (that will tell you you can't build). Sandboxes, your own land, a friend's land, at a mall... if building is permitted, you can do it there.
Be kind and don't leave things behind.

ALSO im now having trouble copying the item im creating. i want to make an identical ring, so its on my body, i right clicked, hit edit, then held shift and went to drag and got a boink kinda sound lol any reason? =/ sorry about all the questions, hopefully ill get the hang of it soon

You might consider visiting the Ivory Tower of Prims to get a nice walkthrough of the basics of building like copying, linking, and such. In the meantime, you can link by selecting multiple prims (shift-click when in edit mode) and hitting ctrl-L. As long as the prims are not too far apart relative to their size, they will form a single object linkset. You can take an object into your inventory by right-clicking on it and selecting "take" or "take copy" from the pie menu. ("Take copy" is on the second screen, you need to select "more" to see it.) Once the object is in your inventory, it defaults to copy permission for you, so you can rez a new copy of it by dragging it from the inventory to the ground. That leaves an unchanged copy in your inventory - any changes you make to the rezzed object are NOT reflected on the copy in your inventory. You will need to take or take a copy of the rezzed object to get a version with the changes. Always remember to name your objects or you'll end up with an inventory full of "Object"s.

you can also select "Take"... to simply "take" things from "the ground" and put them in your inventory... then you can right click the item in inventory and select the place on your body you would like to attach it to.
Edit: What Madhu Maruti said.
