"Select Individual" Option Not Available?

I'm building my first house, and in the instructions, it tells me to check "Select Individual" in the tools palette so that I can remove just the alignment pin. I don't have that option in my palette. Any ideas??

The first thing that came to mind was "Edit Linked Parts" which is an option that allows you to edit individual prims in a linked group of objects.

I finally figured this one out--not exactly intuitive. Apparently in earlier builds of the SL viewer this was an option. Now you have to click "Select Texture", then unlink it to get at individual pieces.

I don't recall ever having an option called Select Individual, although I have been suggesting something similar for a few years now. Rather than having Select Texture, which is highly confusing, and Edit Linked Parts, I'd like to see three simple selection mask toggles right at the top of the editor: Select Whole Objects, Select Prims, and Select Surfaces. That would make so much more sense.

Anyway, it sounds like whoever wrote your tutorial was a little confused on SL's terminology. I'm betting, as Vlad said, that he/she probably meant Edit Linked Parts.

There's no need to use Select Texture for what you're doing. Turning on Edit Linked Parts will allow you to select an individual prim within a link set. You can then edit that prim any way you want, including unlinking it from the set if you so choose. Select Texture kind of sort of allows you to do the same thing, depending on what version of SL you're talking about. In some releases, we were able to adjust prim parameters besides just texturing through Select Texture; in others we haven't been. LL seems to just flip flop that ability for no apparent reason whenever they feel like it. Currently, it seems everything's locked out of Select Texture except for unlinking (and texture editing, of course). How long it will stay that way is anyone's guess.
