Can you cut an opening in a wall?

I know this is a really basic question, but I can't find the answer, and I don't have time to get over to the Ivory Tower of Prims right now. I'm hoping someone has a quick and simple solution that I just don't know!

I've got a wall made from a cube (10m x 10m x.5m). Is it possible to cut openings in it for doors or windows, or do I have to use several smaller prims and build around an opening?

Thanks for your help!

Not really, no.

You can create one opening, centered in the wall, and proportional to the shape of the wall, by using the holow propertu on a cube prim and turning it on its side. Cut that and you have a very roigh archway. Sort of...

But just poking holes where you want them, in the shapes you desire, is not possible.

It would only look right if you made an alpha texture and then applied it to the texture of the square wall that you plan on using otherwise its rather difficult to make it out of one prim (lemme know if you can pull it off) otherwise its best to make it out of a several prims.

That's what I thought. Back to using up more prims!
Thanks.

Also note that whether it would "look right" or not is subjective. Personally, I find anything with alpha-texture windows looks extremely fake, particularly up close where you can't help but notice how it makes the wall look infinitely thin. The alternative is costly prim-wise, but the results will at least "look right", and not be subject to all the bugs that surround alpha textures.

Yes you can!

You will need to rotate your cube at the x or y axiz, then hollow it out as much as you need to.

If you are trying to create a doorway, you will also ned to cut it (That lil section just above the hollow space in the edit window).

Rotate and resize it as you need to. I would give you more detailed directions but SL is down atm :)

Hope that helps!
