Does anybody know of a formula that can be used to translate the Prim Taper to a Angular Value?

maybe a chart.. >? haha

to be exact I am building a pentagon shape where the corners have to be perfectly mitered. What would the exact taper be for a 0.5M thick wall?

thanks

Assuming that your wall thickness is the x dimension and the y dimension is the outside length; further assuming how the taper is calculated (fractional size of the tapered edge); then I think you will find that taper = 1 - 2*x*tan(36 degrees)/y. Which is 1- 1.453(x/y). (Note that this means x < 0.6882 * y, at which point the taper is 1.00). That having been said, I can't see why you would want bto mitre the corners. If you leave the edges square and match the outer edges exactly, the inner edges will intersect exactly where the perfect mitre would put them!
...if your wall is 10m wide and 0.5m thick, this gives 1-1.453/20 = 0.927. For other values (w is the outside wall width) ....
w....!doh .......taper
--....----------------
1.....0.273.....0.727
2.....0.637.....0.363
3.....0.758.....0.242
4.....0.818.....0.182
5.....0.855.....0.145
6.....0.879.....0.121
7.....0.896.....0.104
8.....0.909.....0.091
9.....0.919.....0.081
10...0.927.....0.073

Whoops! ... forgot which way round taper was ... third column!

One very good reason for actually mitering the corners like that is if the top edges of the wall can be seen. For example, if you were making a planter that had 5 sides, and you don't want textures flickering at the cornres, you have to do a real mitre.

Oh yes. You are right. I withdraw my comment.
