Hi all. I'm looking for a script, or some magic solution, to keep pieces together. I have two separate linked sets that need to stay together when I pick them up and put them back out. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it!!

Thanks!

2 ways of doing it - use a tool like Rez Foo or Rez Faux or select both linksets, right click and choose Take - the two will go into your inventory as if linked, but when rezzed will not be linked.

In your inventory groups of objects taken in this way appear as a little group of blocks instead of the single cube that usually denotes an object.

Hi. Thanks for the response. Using Rez Foo would work, but I need the total object to be movable once it's placed. Yes, you could click each separate linked part and move them together, but one of the linked sets is encased and not clickable by someone else.

If you're using something like Rez Foo, then all you have to do is keep the packager object in-world. Wherever you move the packager, the two structure pieces will move to stay in alignment with it, and by consequence, with each other. You could even have one piece be the packager for the other, and save a prim (although this would cut the maximum distance between the two in half.

You could make the second enclosed linked set rezzable in position from the other set. The "child" set could die at some command and rez from the "parent" at some other command, so that a move could be made and the objects set in place again.

The clock doesn't actually have to move much then, right? Is it the kind of thing where someone might put it in the corner of a room or something, and then maybe move it from time to time if they decide to redecorate? If so, then I'd suggest you have the main body of the clock be the rezzer for the other parts. Set the main part out, and then touch it "turn it on", and the other parts will appear. Then if you need to move it, touch it again to derez the loose parts, move it where it needs to go, and the touch to re-rez the other pieces.

That's unless I'm misunderstanding what you need it to do.

Yes, that's mainly it. Unfortunately, I am just learning scripting, and really don't understand how to do what you are saying. If it's with the rez foo, I can probably figure it out. If it's a script, then I need to do some research.
