How many meters up in the sky does the sign need to be before it starts to be shown on the satellite view with the global map? Thanks!

Doesn't need to be high up. It just shows whats at the topmost. Most people put it up high so that it doesn't disturb their build below.

It's not so much a question of how high, but how low. For example, anything on the ground will show on the map, provided there isn't something else above it blocking the view. I did a lot of investigation into this back when they first started showing objects on the map, and there's a thread about it in the forums... somewhere. I can't for the life of me find it atm. From memory the cap is somewhere between 350 and 400 metres. Once you get too high it just won't show up. If you stick to around 350 you should be fine.

400m is the upper limit. I did some 'experimenting', rezzing flat cubes (10x10x0.01) at different altitudes. 399m shows. 401m doesn't show. A prim at 45degrees placed at 399m only shows the portion of the prim below 400m. Two prims, linked together, with the root at 395 and the other (child??) at 405, only the part at 395 is shown. I built a nice racetrack at Wagaland that shows up nicely on the map (used to advertise the club 'O&E', but the racetrack isn't running yet). I originally built at 700m to avoid the lag. then they changed the map and it wasn't visible anymore, so I had to drop the whole thing to 395m. But, it's good in a way also, you can save a lot of clutter on the SL Map by placing objects above the 400m mark. I've often flown to a region just because it looked interesting on the map and I wanted to see more, so to my mind an uncluttered map view is a good thing. One annoyance is that it only seems to show the uppermost prim, even if it's semi-transparent. I have some transparent prims that I had hoped would allow the track below to show through (and spell 'O&E'), but only the transparent prim and the land texture below is shown, the Map ignores any other prims between the transparent prim and the map (I have to find a work around for this, since it spoils what I was hoping to achieve). Have fun
