my husband and i work on building projects together and this last one has left us with more then one headache

why is it when i select a prim of his and drag copy it does it not leave all of the pieces with him as creator and owner? is this a bug?

when i drag and copy ...the copy i drag away still has him as owner and creator but the supposed original left in place now shows me as the owner

is this supposed to happen this way? or is this a bug i should report?

and if it is supposed to happen this way ...why? im not the owner he is the owner all i did was copy it for him because i have his mod rights

Yes, this is how it's supposed to work.

First, the original is the one that got dragged, not the one left behind. That's why it's still got your husband's name on it, and why it generally takes a second or so for the new one to appear in the original's place while the one you moved remained visible the whole time. This is also why you can press ctrl-Z on the dragged one, and it will undo the movement to snap back to where it came from, but if you press ctrl-Z on the one you didn't drag, nothing will happen. Since that new copy spawned right there and hasn't moved, there's nothing to undo.

The new copy has your name as the owner, because you're the one who did the copying, and everything you rez automatically belongs to you until you give it to someone else. It would be the same is if your husband had given it to you to put in your inventory, and then you dragged it out of inventory onto the ground. He's still the creator, but because you're the one who rezzed the item, you're its owner.
