Would also be nice to find a way to get the arms to move and the turn from side to side. I'll worry about getting the gun to fire later.

Hi, I have yet another newbie question. I just spent a week or so building a Dr Who type Dalek and would really like to be able to wear it to move around. Trouble is, no matter what body part I attach it to, it has a tendency to sway back and forth when I walk when I really just want it to glide smoothly over the ground. Is there some way of accomplishing this? I've tried adding a Drive or Car script, but with the Dalek being about 150 something Prims, it just won't work. Any ideas?

i suppose you could accomplish this with an animation overrider that keeps your body still while you are in walk mode... i'm not a poser person so I don't know for sure if you can freeze the feet while leaving the arms free to allow you to "float" yet wave your arms if they stick out, but I believe you can

If you find one of the animations that is basically a static pose, you can either use "play in world" to keep that open (which keeps you in that pose as you move around), or you can use an animation overrider (there's a free one at Yadni's junkyard) to replace the default walk with that static animation. That should keep your attachments steady and make it look like it is gliding.
Mind you, I've been in SL for about three days at this point, so take anything I say with a grain of salt. ![]() And feel free to IM me in-game if you want to show it off. As long as I don't get exterminated. |

Well I already have an animation overrider, and did some looking through my Inventory and found a static model pose, so now I have a moving Dalek. Hoorah!
Also have 'Exterminate' and weapon firing sound effects. I just need to find a script to make them play when I click on the AV, and of course, figure out how to get some movement in the body parts. Would be cool if I could at least get the dome to rotate in the direction I'm looking. Dyne - I'll track you down and give you a private viewing once I get it working. (note to self, get a screen capture to post here) |

Alternatively, you could use invisiprims to render your body invisible... then it doesn't matter WHAT you're doing... Put a dalek model together... attach the appropriate parts and adjust as needed... Be sure to attach the main body of the Dalek to your hips so you can get that authentic clunky movement...
Voila! Dalek Avatar... Now if you wanted to be Dr. Davros, you can make a small hover vehicle and use the sit animation on... OR For better effect you could invisiprim your legs, attach the chair with fake legs (Davros 1) or completely covered legs (Davros 2) to your hips...shrink your legs down to minimum, adjust as needed and away you go... For Davros, remember that you need that glowing eye thingie in the middle of his very overgrown grossly swollen head... As for the scowling appearance and distorted facial features, IM me in world and I would be happy to re-create that distinctive sourpuss... _____________________

The only Daleks I've seen are in the Doctor Who group to which I belong, but they're a bit smaller than humans which means you need to use invisiprims. I'm not even sure if they're meant to be avatars! They use fewer prims though, and even say "Exterminate". The shop is in the TARDIS in Achlya. (The group's TARDIS, not mine.)

Cool, I'll have to swing by your area and check it out. My AV doesn't quite fit inside the Dalek casing either without a little tweeking. Fortunately somewhere along the line I picked up a script that shrinks my AV down to little kid size, which allows her to fit inside without a problem. Planning on doing some exploring/showing off tonight, so if anyone spots a grey and Blue Dalek gliding around, come over and say Hi. ![]() |
