Hi, is there a secret/trick for shrinking a many-primmed object that is too large without having to unlink and shrink each individual prim?

No secret - that I am aware of...

As with a single prim select the object and select 'stretch' - however a multi-prim object will not give you the red/green/blue handles instead presenting white ones for the the whole object. You will be able to 'stretch' the object using these handles until the minimum size of the smallest component prim is reached or until the maximum size of the largest prim is reached.

Thanks, but...

Sorry i guess I wasn`t too clear.

My problem is I have created a few hairstyles for men in accordance to my avatar head size of 81. I was new at this and did not realize the hair would not be able to shrink down to fit smaller sized heads. (doh)

So.. Perhaps im out of luck or there is some tip out there to help me get these hairs to fit a size 40 head if I wanted them to without having to redo the hair by shrinking each individual hair piece one by one.

The hair object can expand with no problem, but when I try to make the hair smaller it wont budge.

Note to anyone about to make hair or prim objects - build SMALL, enlarge later.

The smallest dimension that a prim can have is 0.01m.

While in the process of being scaled down, if any prim in a linked set reaches that 0.01m minimum in any dimension before any others in the set, the whole set will be prevented from being scaled down any further.

In other words, the smallest prim in an object dictates how small you can scale down the entire object.

What you'll need to do is go through the prims in that hair you've made, find which prims hit that minimum size (in any dimension) before any others in the hair and scale them up slightly. The larger you make the smallest prims in the hair, the smaller you'll be able to make the entire hair object.

Since it's more tricky scaling down than up, it may be necessary to create a different version for the hair specifically designed for heads smaller than a certain minimum size depending on the design and construction of the hair.

Ah ok, does that hold true every time?

If so, there must be a very very small prim hidden in my hair somewhere.

Yup, that holds true every single time with conventional prims. There are micro prims that one can make and there's a thread here that explains how they can be made.

I'm not sure if I explained it clearly enough so I'll just point out again that the minimum size limitation applies to *any single dimension* of a prim.

For example, if you have a cube prim that measures 10m x 10m x 0.01m, you're not going to be able to scale down that prim any further because one of its dimensions is already at 0.01m.

Thanks Locke, I understood. I heard that before but wasnt sure if there was some way around it, never know I guess.

Ah, I guess I should not have been lazy with that strand of hair I minimized and hid within the rest of the hair rofl.
