How do I select a few linked items?

I know how to link objects; I also know how to unlink them and select individual prims in a linked object. BUT, I can't work out how to work on or remove an individual prim, and leave the rest linked later on. For me it's either/or. linked or not linked.

Okay, imagine I have a house, and it's all linked. But I decide I want to delete a couple of prims that are wrong, or change them for something else.

To delete them I have to unlink the house (because delete single prim doesn't seem to work if it's just "unlinked". You can move them, alter their size and copy them using CTL+D but not delete them apparently)

Anyway, having unlinked the entire house, I can change those wrong prims, but now all the rest of the house is unlinked (not what I wanted - it should stay linked, minus the rogue prims). I have to go round and link everything all over again.

Am I making myself clear? Is there an answer to this?

try using 'edit linked object' or 'select texture' to select only one prim. Then use the tools-unlink feature (don't use the shortcut, I have issues using the shortcut). This will, in 99% of the cases unlink *only* the prim selected. I have encountered random issues of the whole linked set coming undone, but it seems to be more a fluke or a big at work, than standard operating procedure.

If you need further assistance with this, don't hesitate to contact me in game for a brief hands on tutorial.
