A Safe Number to Build...

I have a bad habit. I love building houses..........mostly to give me an excuse to dream up textures to put on it. I only have one 512 lot so I can't build many houses without taking the "old" one down and starting another since I'm not really good at prim saving.......yeah I know you can save lots of prims but I'm not wanting to sell anything (though if anyone wants one of mine they can ask my price........I'm cheap :) ). But the last house I did I completed about a week ago and toward the end when I was trying put some final touches on it and change textures I had a big problem with lag and stuff not working right. My lot is on mainland (first land, in fact) but the region is really quite quiet. What I'm wondering is what is a good number of concurrent logins to use so I can mimiumize the problems I had late in the last build?

25,000? Less? Or am I waiting for no reason? I get a little skeptical when the number is close to 22 K.

Not so long ago, things went entirely in the dumpster at 10K logins... Now it appears to be somewhere around 20K, but is not consistent enough to put a more precise number on.

I think it is getting better, though not nearly as fast as I would like. And at least we haven't had three consecutives days of downtime due to grid attacks in a little while now :D

Peggy, build up at around 500 will help too- not with the usual SL problems of fail to rez etc, but it will put less strain on your computer, less network stuff going on between you and SL, it all helps. And taking things slow, and holding things still to let SL catch up with you.

It's a pain, but until you actually start getting errors about rezzing failed, it's ok. I remember when rubber-banding seemed to first appear, and you had to do everything twice. It was a real pain, but you get used to it.

Come on now...........I remember when 10 K was a problem. I remember when 15 K was a problem, I remember when 20 K was a problem...............and I even remember the first time SL hit over 30 K. I've been around a little while. I know they are making head way........but not enough to get ahead of the problem. A day late and a dollar short is still a day late and a dollar short no matter how much you have improved.............it's not fixed.

But back to my post. I know I can build in the sky...........I've done it. But even in the sky I get problems with things working correctly. I merely asked if anyone knew a number that works now..........not next week when they catch up to last weeks users. Simple question if you have any answers........or hard if you don't. I can deal with the lag stuff but that does not mean I really want to deal with it.

There is also sim performance when considering a build. I once had a small land 1024 sm in older sim, and it impossible to build, everything so slow! My big parcel in different sim does not have performance problem and there no problems even when 30,000 logged on.
