Moving a house and contents

Hi,

I have two topics really. I'm already on a 4096 plot and have reached my prim limit. The sim owner has another 2048 plot availabe that is not next to mine. Is it possible for us to somehow "associate" this plot to mine for the purpose of increasing the prim count on my current plot without the plots actually being next to each other?

I can already hear you saying "No - duh!" So my next question. The sim owner has another 4096 plot next to the 2048 one so that they can be combined. Is there an easy way for me to physically move my entire skybox house and its contents from one plot to another on the same sim? How would i do that? I'm not great at dragging and dropping things, so is there a way to sellect the whole buiding and contents and then just enter new physical coordinates and "poof" everything just moves! Ok, now I hear you saying "No - Duh" again!

Thanks for your help!

Good news.

https://support.secondlife.com/ics/support/KBAnswer.asp?questionID=4653

All parcels within the same region (sim) that are owned by the same owner or group, contribute to your prim limits.

So if you own the new parcel, and leave it empty, you can build up to the combined total on your existing parcel. This works even when the parcels are not touching.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for the great news. Now I don't have to mess with moving!

For when/iif you ever DO want to move within a sim...

(Before you do the following, take no-copy items and put them in your inventory. I'm going to recommend taking a backup in case things go wrong.)

Find the X and Y coordinates of the centre of your new land. Record the Z coordinate of your current skybox, as well.

(For the math-phobic: If it's a rectangle, rez an object on each of two diagonally opposite corners, get the X and Ys of those. Subtract the smaller X from the larger, divide the resulting number in 2, add to the smaller. Repeat for Y.)

To select -everything- in one go, you can get into edit mode, go to the Tools menu, and select 'Select By Surrounding' and 'Select Only My Objects'.

Then get your screen so you can see everything all at once, and click-drag to make a box around EVERYTHING. That will select everything that's entirely within that box.

Check that you haven't missed anything. Anything you have missed, you can add to your selection by holding shift down and clicking on it.

Right click and select 'Take Copy'. (It's after the first 'More'.) The copy in your inventory will appear in 'Objects', probably with a silly name - whatever got selected last, which is probably by chance - and will have an icon of a pile of boxes stacked on each other.

With this, you'll be able to simply drag the lot out of your inventory and rez it onto your new land. Which isn't what you asked, but I'm suggesting it as a backup. Taking a backup before any major move is always a good idea!

Now, the next step will probably fail if you don't have obliging neighbours with enough prims to let you very temporarily rez over their land. It's also really only valid within the one sim (it CAN work across sim borders, but you have to do some funky math & I wouldn't recommend it). If you're changing sims, or don't have obliging neighbours, skip to 'If it didn't work or....'

Go to the Objects tab in the Edit window. Fill in the new X (or Y) coordinate.

Everything selected will jump to the location represented by the new X and the old Y - this is why you need obliging neighbours with spare prims. If you can't rez over their land, SL will either refuse the move, or shove the stuff into your lost&found as a pile-of-boxes like your 'Take Copy' result. I'm not sure which. If it refuses the move, try the other coordinate.

If all went well at that stage, fill in the other coordinate. Everything selected will jump to the new location, and your move is almost complete.

Make sure everything is rotated correctly. You may need to enter a 90o rotation on either the X or the Y axis. Or a 270o rotation, if you prefer.

Rez your no-copy objects back into place.

Finished! Yay!

If it didn't work, or if you're changing sims:

Go to the new land and rez either the Lost&Found or the 'Take Copy' version onto the new land. You can use your X and Y coordinates you calculated to move it to the exact centre of the land, and fill in the Z coordinate you want. Again, you may have to fiddle with rotations.

Note that "take copy" works only if all objects are copiable, so you might want to just use "take".

Also, I generally create one object that's easy to select, and name it whatever I want my cluster of objects to be named in my inventory. After selecting the whole skybox and contents, hold shift and unselect-reselect the box with the name. That simply gives the cluster object's name in your inventory. Otherwise it's called whatever the last thing selected happened to be.

I recommend against trying to use the edit box to the new coords. Instead, in the new location, rez a box, sit on it, and move it to the desired skybox height. Change its size to a 10x10 platform and stand. (If you have a 'workspace buster', just use that.)

Drag the object cluster from your inventory onto the middle of your platform. Viola!

But, glad there's no need. :D
